This is where things start to get interesting…
With the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift coming to Manchester in 2027, the real question isn’t just about the race, it’s about what we do with the opportunity around it.
For us that means one thing:
👉 How do we use this moment to get more young people from Manchester riding bikes?
We’re already working with partners across the city to shape a more joined-up approach to schools cycling, something that is:
• Simple
• Inclusive
• Exciting
• Easy for schools to engage with
• Built to scale
Because if we get this right, 2027 isn’t just a big event…
It’s the start of something much bigger for cycling in Manchester.
Know a young rider thinking about what comes next after Year 11?
The Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) is designed for riders who are serious about developing both academically and in their sport.
It’s typically suited to those who are:
• Aged 16–18
• Competing at regional or national level
• Continuing in full-time post-16 education
However, it’s not just about results.
We look for riders who show:
• A positive attitude
• A willingness to learn
• The potential to progress
In Manchester, DiSE is delivered in a structured and supportive environment where learning is directly connected to real riding and coaching.
Students remain at their chosen school or college while developing their understanding of performance, training and progression on the bike.
If you are considering DiSE, we recommend selecting Manchester as your preferred delivery centre.
If this could be relevant, feel free to comment below or send us a message, or share this with someone who might benefit.

We're continuing our series about DiSE - the Diploma in Sporting Excellence.
One of the most common questions is regarding the study subjects.
DiSE focuses on performance education rather than traditional classroom subjects.
You’ll study areas directly linked to long-term performance and development, including:
- Psychology
- Nutrition & Anti-Doping
- Strength & conditioning
- Performance planning, preparation and review
- lifestyle management
- communication & decision-making
and of course…on the bike skills - all designed to make you a better rider.
These themes are explored through race plans, nutrition diaries and analysis, career plans, lifestyle plans, goal-setting, reviews, professional discussions and training and competition logbooks. Each piece of work will count towards your overall assessment and result.
And guess what? No exams! It’s assessed in three ways, through a small amount of written work, 1-2-1’s with your Tutor and via evidence you provide to back up your work.
The emphasis is on building understanding, judgement and independence - designed to make you a better rider.

ARE YOU THINKING OF DISE IN SEPTEMBER?
The application period for the next intake of the British Cycling DiSE programme is just about to open, so we thought we'd give you an insight into what DiSE is and how it works.
Over the next few days, we’ll answer common questions about how DiSE works and who it is for.
So, what is DiSE?
DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) is a nationally recognised performance education programme for students aged 16–18 funded by Sport England managed by SportsAid and led by @ British Cycling worth up to 64 UCAS points.
It allows young riders from all disciplines to remain in full-time post-16 education while developing the skills, behaviours and habits to prepare them for high-level performance.
The bike is used as a learning tool, but it’s about more than sport. Education, discipline, independence and long-term development sit at the centre of the programme.
Over the next few days, we’ll answer common questions about how DiSE works and who it is for.
