Manifesto for Presidential candidate Letitia Jones

Name: Letitia Jones

Position Standing For: President

Why I am standing:

I am currently working towards a MSc in Business Analytics, this is a career change for me. The start of my second life as I celebrated my 40th birthday in January.

I was introduced to Manchester Metropolitan University in 2010 as I studied abroad, while here I became a writer and editor of Humanity Hallow (now aHa Magazine) and a student worker on the admission teams for Clearing. I came back in 2015 for my MA in Creative Writing, and again in 2019 for a second masters. This university changed me, it inspired me, and now it is home.

I believe in stewardship as leadership, and the servership of leading people. I am not standing to be the boss or bully to get my own way. I am standing to be your president because change begins with you and me. I want to be the change I want to see at Manchester Metropolitan University. I am standing to serve. I want to work for you and support you as you navigate through Manchester Met to achieve your life goals. Elect me and you will see your student voice at the forefront of everything that I will work for.

We are what community looks like. We are Manchester Metropolitan University students.

Priority 1: Strengthen the Student Community using the village life philosophy
It takes a village to support a university student, I want to bring our community closer together and support each and every student and empower them to get the best university experience.
Cultivate more campus wide inclusive spaces for all students beginning with the All Saints campus:
Safe, private and comfortable nursing rooms (that can be accessed with student ID card) and child-friendly spaces on campus for all parents.
Areas with ‘homey atmosphere’ for commuting students to hang out, relax, eat, study for long periods of time or non-traditional university hours.
Lobbying for more non-traditional student friendly university accommodation: students with families, students who are head of households, LGBTQIA students, second life students, neurodivergent students, disabled students.
Priority 2: Work with Student groups, the university community, and the Widening Participation Team to cultivate a system that works for all
Work on the creation of the Second Life Scheme
The scheme will support non-traditional students returning to university to gain more experience for career advancement or non-traditional students enrolling in Higher Education for the first time because their job sector is being replaced by technology. The goal of the scheme will be to support these students at every step of their university life, and include them in the university life.

Priority 3: Increased support for international students and our students based around the world
I want to take our relationship with international students further.
Lobbying on international visa regulations
Help to expand study abroad exchange partnerships and opportunities for home students with colleges and universities in Sub-Saharan Africa and Oceania

So for an inspiring, inclusive and supporting student village vote Letitia number 1 and let’s be the change together.
