We’ve got dozens of drum books including all the classics at the studio, here are a few we’ve been taking inspiration from this week!
All our lessons are tailored to the individual student’s goals, so it’s always great to have a wide range of resources on hand!

It’s been another bumper week in the studio!
The sun may be shining but our students are still making time to work on their drumming and have some fun! 🥁

Snare drum variations are often overlooked by drummers but they are a great way to add some new spice into our drum grooves!
This snare drum variation in this post is used on ‘Starlight’ by Muse. Drummer Dom Howard used snare drum variations to create this instantly recognisable and iconic groove.
Check out Muse performing this track at Glastonbury in 2010 to see thousands of people all clapping along to this snare part!

Next up in our groove series, it’s sixteenth note grooves!
This way of playing the hi-hats can help us create some really interesting variations in our drum grooves. From upbeat rock, to silky smooth funk, 16th note grooves can be useful for lots of styles of music!
When playing 16th note grooves both our hands usually play the hi hats, with our dominant hand coming down to the snare on beats 2 and 4.
Here are a few of our favourite songs with 16th note grooves:
1️⃣ Rock With You - Michael Jackson
2️⃣ Fly Away - Lenny Kravitz
3️⃣ Rio - Duran Duran

The weather might be rubbish again outside this week, but this kit is still sparkling bright inside the studio!
(Plus, bad weather is the perfect excuse to stay in and practice your last lesson 😜)

Often called the ‘four on the floor’ beat, this is a funky variation on the first beat most of us ever learn.
This beat has a bass drum on every beat (even with the snare drum!). The 4 bass drums in every bar are where the name ‘four on the floor comes from’!
The beat was made famous through disco music but these days lots of drummers use this beat in rock and pop styles to make people dance.
We’ve shared 5 of our favourite songs that use a ‘four on the floor’ beat below, can you think of any others?
1️⃣ Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson
2️⃣ Another One Bites The Dust - Queen
3️⃣ Get Lucky - Daft Punk
4️⃣ Superstition - Stevie Wonder
5️⃣ White Wedding - Billy Idol

Our drum tutor Grace has spent the past few days at the legendary Marshall studios in Milton Keynes, recording some videos for Natal Drums.
We’re excited to share the videos soon but in the meantime check out the photos of some of the kits Grace played at the studio!
We already have an amazing Natal kit in our teaching studio, but very soon we’re going to have even MORE new Natal goodies for our students to play! 🤐

Whether you’ve been playing drums a while, you’ve just started lessons, or you’re still dreaming about the day when you finally start playing drums… we all start in the same place!
This is the first beat most of us learn to play on drums and it’s an absolute classic!
Some call it the ‘rock beat’, some call it the ‘eighth note groove’ and others call call it ‘boots and cats’. Whatever you call it, it’s the groove behind some of the most famous songs of all time.
Here are some of our favourite songs that use this beat, can you think of any others?
1️⃣ Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
2️⃣ Let It Be - The Beatles
3️⃣ The Power of Love - Huey Lewis & The News
