In 2006, when I began my undergraduate degree in Education, one of the first assignments was to write a 3000 word essay on the Teacher of The Future. At the time, I was convinced that our future teachers would no longer be teaching in a traditional classroom but teaching virtually. I imagined some kind of Minority Report, futuristic, hologram kind of set up. I recently found this essay and I smiled at my predictions as actually, they were quite accurate!
In 2006, I didn’t really know what I was talking about to be fair but teachers of 2022 have gone virtual thanks to amazing technological advances and the wonders of Zoom.
Families are looking for a ‘best fit’ to help compliment the variety of rich learning that their children experience outside of the traditional classroom. When you educate online, parents can search for a teacher to boost the confidence of their children, a teacher who cares, a teacher who is passionate about a subject that a learner needs a little boost in, a teacher who can hone into the specific learning style of their learners to ensure that every child’s needs are met. This is something that cannot be achieved in the traditional classroom environment.
I love being able to visit a variety of countries each and everyday when I teach online! From the UK, to Hong Kong, from Korea to Taiwan, from the USA to Poland… I have learnt so much being an online teacher from the inspiring pupils I have had the privilege to teach! Maybe one day I will reach hologram level but for now, I love travelling the World everyday from the comfort of my own home!
