As a registered Outstanding Childminder, we aim to provide a service that allows children to develop in a safe, secure homebased environment. Play will be at the centre of your child’s learning and development, and we provide a wide range or activities and learning opportunities appropriate to their interests, age and stage of development. We enjoy planning goals for the children to reach based on
our curriculum, some activities ahead of the day but also “in the moment” and extending children’s ideas, interests and enthusiasm. For example, if we are playing in the garden and a child finds a snail and shows interest, we will extend this by watching the snail, getting out the magnifying glasses, finding out more about the snail, like what type it is and what it likes to eat, painting a spiral with water on the ground with a paint brush and water, looking for other minibeasts, digging in the mud for worms, using clip board to record what we find etc. We use various theories alongside the EYFS, merged with my own wealth of experience to deliver exceptional care and development. Sometimes children’s learning experiences, schemas and interests may last a few moments or several weeks, therefore we adapt my teaching to run alongside the children’s needs rather than structuring a long-term plan that they must follow. We also encourage independence so children can learn important skills to give them a good self-image and to prepare them for school. You will hear and see all about what they get up to daily through Baby Days. We do find that parent’s love the daily updates with pictures that they can then discuss with their children in the evening before bedtime. We do have some routine and structure during the day too as we feel that children need this to feel secure and fulfil their needs. The routine depends on the age and stages of the children and we adapt this according to the mix of children we have and their needs. Routine helps children understand what is going to happen next and gives them the opportunities for independence with handwashing, cooperating with nappy changing and toileting needs, eating and getting off to sleep.
