Oxford University was already teaching students when the Aztec civilization was just beginning. Oxford dates back to around 1096, while the Aztecs founded Tenochtitlán (where major temples were built) in 1325. One of the world’s oldest universities is older than one of history’s most famous empires.

In the New Testament, several passages refer to Jesus having “brothers” and “sisters” (for example, Matthew 13:55–56 and Mark 6:3). The brothers are named as James, Joseph (Joses), Simon, and Judas, and his sisters are mentioned but not named.

Interpretations differ:

Many Protestant Christians believe these were Jesus’s actual younger siblings, children of Mary and Joseph.

Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Christians believe these “brothers and sisters” were close relatives, such as cousins, or children from Joseph’s earlier marriage, since they teach that Mary remained a virgin.

The original language (Greek) used the word adelphoi, which can mean brothers, relatives, or close kin, not only biological siblings.

Because of this, the question depends on theological tradition, not just the text itself.

The British Empire was one of the largest empires in history, built through colonisation from the 16th to the 20th century. Britain established control over territories in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania, often driven by trade, resources, and political power. While the empire spread the English language, legal systems, and infrastructure, colonisation also caused exploitation, cultural loss, economic inequality, and long-lasting impacts on Indigenous peoples that are still felt today.
