We are assessing, supporting children’s learning and organising Mock tests. In this month, Y2’s and Y6’s mock SATs tests are ongoing. 11+, GCSE and A level Mock tests will be conducted after the half term holiday. Mock SATs tests are important because they serve both diagnostic and preparatory purposes for pupils and schools. Key reasons include: 1. Familiarisation with exam conditionsPupils experience the format, timing, and expectations of the real SATs, which reduces anxiety and improves confidence. 2. Identifying strengths and gapsTeachers can pinpoint specific areas where pupils are secure and where they need targeted support (e.g. arithmetic, reasoning, reading inference). 3. Targeted intervention planningResults from mock tests help schools design focused interventions before the actual SATs, making revision time more effective. 4. Assessment without pressureMock SATs provide a low-stakes environment where pupils can practise without the consequences of final results. 5. Tracking progressComparing mock results with later assessments helps measure progress and evaluate the impact of teaching strategies. 6. Building exam skillsPupils practise essential skills such as time management, reading questions carefully, and checking answers. 7. Supporting teacher judgementMock results contribute evidence that supports teacher assessments and informs predictions.In short, mock SATs are not about labelling pupils, but about preparation, support, and improvement—helping children perform to the best of their ability in the real assessments.
