CEO | Industrial Professor | Senior Higher Education & Engineering Leader | Industrial R&D, Manufacturing & Technology Commercialisation | AI & Digital Education Innovation Professor Dr. Saim Memon, CEO and Industrial Professor of Renewable Energy Engineering, unifies academic R&D, industrial manufacturing and product distribution worldwide. He transformed ideas into inventions, then into R&D, followed by mass production and market-ready products, exemplified by the world’s first Vacuum Insulated Wallpaper (VIW), Vacuum Insulated Heatable Curtain (VIHC) and Vacuum Insulated Curtain (VIC) for energy savings. Prof Saim has taught 41 modules (mostly as module leader) in electrical, electronic, mechanical and renewable energy engineering and supervised numerous PhD, MSc and MEng projects. He has held roles across leading UK and global institutions such as Huddersfield, Loughborough, London South Bank, Staffordshire, Aberdeen (NESCOL/University of Aberdeen), Arden, Lancaster, Manchester Metropolitan, Hokkaido, British University in Egypt, University of Mauritius, Hunan University of Science & Technology and Birmingham City University. On 24 July 2025, after two years of AI/DeepMind and LLM development, Prof Saim launched the world’s first Digital Twin AGI Professor, AISaim, in Electrical, Mechanical and Energy Engineering—a hyper-realistic, multilingual, always-on educator that fuses his pedagogy, research and industrial practice to elevate learners worldwide. Prof Saim built his academic career in the UK, earning a PhD in Mechanical, Electrical & Manufacturing Engineering (Loughborough University), a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching (University of Aberdeen), an MSc in Mechatronics (Staffordshire University) and a BEng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering (Distinction). He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of Advance HE, holding Qualified Teacher status (GTCS). Saim has world-leading multidisciplinary research expertise across Electrical, Mechanical and Renewable Energy Engineering; his experience covers net-zero energy buildings, vacuum insulation, thermal management and fast charging of EV batteries, photovoltaic solar-thermal collectors and thermoelectrics. He is ranked top 0.96% worldwide in Energy and 0.86% overall over the past five years (ScholarGPS), with 150+ publications, 37 industry articles, 120 presentations/videos and 2,200+ citations (h-index 28+, i10 57+). He has served as Editor-in-Chief and Guest Editor for 5+ journals and reviewed for 40+ impactful journals. 𝗜𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿?

In this three-minute highlight from my 40-minute keynote at GOPE 2026 in Rome, I explain a simple idea behind my work: reducing energy loss deserves serious attention alongside generating cleaner energy.

Imagine a bucket with holes. Keeping it full requires a continuous supply of water. Reduce the leakage, and less water is needed. Here, the water represents energy in kilowatt-hours.

That is why I work on vacuum insulation at Sanyou London: to address unwanted heat transfer and its consequences for heating and cooling demand.

But the discussion begins with something more fundamental.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝗶𝗺? 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗺 𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲?

We can talk about net zero, sustainability and clean energy for hours. Those ambitions need evidence and action behind them. Otherwise, we complete the checklist while the problem remains.

I value research that deepens understanding, challenges an assumption or helps us make a better decision. The words we use must lead us towards that purpose.

𝗦𝗶𝘅 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀; 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. At and in Rome, Italy, on 17–19 September 2026, I received six conference certificates, alongside six additional CPD certificates—my highest number within three days. These included Certificates of Recognition as a Keynote Speaker, Certificates of Presentation and a Certificate of Excellence, accompanying my contributions in speaking, chairing and scientific service. The occasion marked a personal milestone: 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟭𝟮𝟬 𝗸𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟭𝟲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. Each invitation carries a responsibility to contribute something worthwhile—to advance understanding, invite scrutiny and connect people whose expertise can move a difficult problem forward. I am grateful to the academic and industrial communities worldwide that have entrusted me with that responsibility. My celebration was modest: a visit to the Trevi Fountain, followed by coffee and a slice of pizza at Deroma – Farine Romane. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗲, 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁.

How can we make existing buildings more comfortable when replacing their windows is costly, disruptive or simply impractical?

This question underpinned my keynote at the International Energy Future Conference, IEFC 2026, held in Rome, Italy, and online on 17–19 September.

I contributed as:

My keynote was titled:
“Energy Performance of World’s First Vacuum Insulated Heatable Curtain for Realistic Energy-Loss Reduction with Mild Radiant Heating”.

Through Sanyou London, I brought together my research and industrial experience to discuss a curtain system that combines vacuum insulation with gentle, localised radiant heating.

Its purpose is practical: to address window heat loss and comfort in buildings where substantial alterations may be difficult, including homes, schools, hotels and heritage properties.

For me, scientific integrity means examining the complete picture—the electricity used, the effect on the main heating system and the comfort people experience. These are the questions that make research useful to those who must decide whether to adopt it.

I particularly valued a programme spanning hydrogen, bioenergy, sustainable housing and electricity systems. Chairing and contributing to such a meeting carries a responsibility to encourage careful reasoning and constructive exchange.

My thanks to the organisers and fellow participants for their collegiality and excellent organisation. I return from Rome with a renewed commitment to research that connects technical ingenuity with everyday needs.

This is not AI translation.

I conceived, designed and developed an integrated classroom experience combining a full-body AI presenter, physical blackboard teaching, PowerPoint projection, synchronised voice, gestures and captions, academic references, critical reflective questions, and integrated audio-visual presentation.

The aim was never simply to put an AI face in front of an ordinary lecture.

It was to ask:

My answer is this classroom.

I am exploring how AI, LLMs and humanoid systems could support rigorous teaching, authentic assessment, reduced avoidable bias, global access, better value for students, and human academic judgement where it matters most.

Through my research and industrial work at Sanyou London, I continue to examine how vacuum insulation can address practical thermal challenges across different applications.

One example is my Vacuum Insulated Heatable Curtain, which combines window heat-loss reduction with localised radiant comfort. Behind each invention lie engineering decisions, testing and the challenge of making it practical to manufacture and use.

I also shared my interest in AI and digital education: bringing academic knowledge and industrial experience into learning that reaches more people and encourages critical thinking.

In my welcome address, I invited colleagues to ask searching questions, speak openly about what works and what does not, and develop collaborations that last beyond our time in Rome.

After three years of contributing to GOPE, I remain grateful for its excellent organisation and the people who make these exchanges worthwhile.

I am pleased to share that I will be speaking at the International Energy Future Conference, IEFC 2026, in Rome, Italy, from 17–19 September 2026.
My keynote will focus on the energy performance of the world’s first Vacuum Insulated Heatable Curtain, developed as a practical solution for realistic heat-loss reduction with mild radiant heating. For me, this work matters because many buildings still need solutions that are thin, user-friendly, retrofit-ready, and genuinely useful in everyday conditions rather than only impressive in theory.
The key idea is simple. Instead of accepting window heat loss and then compensating for it with more heating, we can reduce that loss at source while also improving local comfort in the occupied zone. That makes the approach more practical for homes, schools, hotels, heritage buildings, and rented properties where major glazing replacement may not be realistic.
I look forward to meeting fellow researchers, engineers, policymakers, and industry colleagues, and to contributing to discussions on practical energy solutions with real-world impact.

In this keynote, I will share the journey of the Vacuum Insulated Heatable Curtain from conceptual invention to market deployment. For me, this is a meaningful example of how academic innovation can become a practical and cost-effective solution for real buildings, helping reduce heat loss while improving local comfort.

The plenary speech will focus on how ultra-thin vacuum insulation can move from research into mass manufacturing for real use in buildings, cold-chain logistics, transport, and AI data-centre thermal management.
