A quick note for parents and tutors.

A large tutoring site called First Tutors has recently closed, and it has left a lot of tutors and families in a difficult position.
For many tutors, years of profile information, reviews and professional history were connected to that platform. For parents, those reviews and profiles were often part of how they checked experience and made decisions about who to trust with their child’s education.

This morning, we sent an email to our tutor community with suggested wording they can use if they want to request access to any personal data still held about their old tutor profile, including things like profile wording, subject listings, account details or review history.

Why does this matter?

Because reviews and professional history can be an important part of a tutor’s reputation, and we believe good tutors should feel confident asking for information that relates to their own work.

For parents, this is part of the wider picture of choosing a tutor carefully. Reviews, experience, communication, safeguarding, qualifications and the way a tutor presents themselves all matter. Behind the scenes, we try to support tutors to handle these things properly and professionally.

It is not about drama. It is about transparency, professionalism and helping tutors understand their own information.

A little founder introduction from me, as I know many of you have joined this page recently, and some of you may know The Education Hotel before you know the person behind it.
I’m Jemma, founder of The Education Hotel Tuition

I started the business after years of working in education, private tutoring, school support and international education. What began with me personally tutoring families has grown into a wider team of experienced tutors, teachers, examiners and education specialists supporting students with 11+, GCSEs, A Levels, school entrance, confidence, exam technique and more.

I'm a qualified teacher, as are many of our tutors and I hold a Royal Society of chemistry scholarship. I studied biochemistry at Oxford university and worked as the head of an international study centre before forming The Education Hotel Tuition

The reason I built The Education Hotel Tuition was simple: families often need more than just “a tutor”.

They need someone who can understand the bigger picture. The child, the family, the school, the exam, the pressure, the timing, and the right kind of support.

That is still at the heart of what we do.

Behind the logo, there is a team of real people working hard to match students carefully, communicate clearly with parents, provide feedback, and help children make progress without turning education into panic.

Over the next few months, you’ll see more from me here, as well as updates from the wider team. We’ll be sharing more advice on tuition, school entrance, exam preparation, group classes, holiday courses, university preparation and how to know what support is right for your child.

We are now accepting applications for our Summer Term 11+ Success Programmes, starting week commencing 4th May.

These programmes are designed for committed families who want something more focused, selective and structured than a standard weekly class.

Each child is assessed before joining so we can make sure they are placed appropriately and will benefit from the pace and level of the group.

This term’s programmes include:
- Monday, 6:30–7:30pm. Vocabulary & Verbal Reasoning
- Wednesday, 5–6pm. English Comprehension Skills
Only 2 spaces remaining
- Thursday, 6–7pm. Creative Writing Exam Papers
Includes individual voice and video feedback
- Friday, 6:30–7:30pm- Non-Verbal Reasoning

Each programme includes:
-10 live online lessons
-Weekly homework
-Lesson recordings
-Weekly reports
-Portal access with revision materials, book lists etc
Assessment and consultation before joining

Most classes are capped at just 4 students, so places are very limited. Creative Writing is capped at 8 due to the individual feedback structure.

This is not a casual revision group. It is a structured 10-week 11+ programme for serious Year 4 and Year 5 students who are ready to commit to consistent preparation over the summer term.

Fees are £25–£35 per lesson.

The Education Hotel is aware of the recent announcement confirming that the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools have selected Future Stories Community Enterprise (FSCE) as the admissions test provider for children applying for September 2028 entry and beyond.

For families currently preparing for September 2027 entry, there is nothing that needs to change. The assessment arrangements for this cohort remain the same, and our existing preparation plans will continue as normal.

The revised process is expected to begin with children sitting the test in summer of Year 5 in 2027, for entry in September 2028. This means that pupils currently working towards the next admissions round are not affected by this update.

We already prepare students for FSCE in Reading boys and Chelmsford county high school for girls, so are familiar with the exam provider.

Our English and Maths masterclasses are all about exam technique, confidence and smart preparation.

On Saturday 9-11am- the English session helps students understand how to approach questions, manage their time and avoid common mistakes.

On Sunday 9-11am - the Maths session focuses on clear methods, careful working and improving confidence under timed conditions.

As we head into the summer term, many of our students turn to exams realising that despite having covered the material, this doesn't always equal high scores
We are running two live 11+ masterclasses this April for students who would benefit from sharpening how they approach the exam, not just what they know.

On 11th April, 9–11am, our English Exam Technique Masterclass will focus on timing, accuracy, checking work effectively and reducing exam stress.

On 12th April, 9–11am, our Math Exam Technique Masterclass will cover accuracy, checking, timing and staying calm under pressure.

Both live sessions include the chance to ask questions and try activities during the class, and recordings are sent to families afterwards.
These sessions are designed for children sitting the 11+ this year and are a great way to use the final stretch well, especially for students who know the content but need help translating that into stronger exam performance. Each masterclass is 2 hours and can be purchased here
