We love it when resources specialists make lovely activities to accompany our books to help out teachers – and that’s just what KS2Gems has done! These resources are fantastic and target reading skills as set out in the English National Curriculum – you can even sample some of the resources for free – link to their page is in the comments.

Do you live or work in the South West, South East, London, West Midlands, North East or Yorkshire and Humber? The Carnegies are recruiting librarian judges from these regions for 2027-28.

The Carnegie Medals are awarded annually by CILIP and the Youth Libraries Group to books for children and young people that create outstanding reading experiences through writing or illustration.

It's in some parts of the world. In the UK, the West African historical Kingdom of Benin is rightly included as a topic by many primary teachers. An amazing civilisation - that excelled in art - discovering more about this historical kingdom is a fantastic way to explore Black History at any time of year!

Sunny weather again at last! Now that it's perked up I'll be arranging to do more of these lovely dino-tastic events (reading, book signing, dinosaur craft sessions) with the lovely folks at Parakeet Books - this was back in April at the Horniman's Museum when I had to keep on hat, coat and scarf despite the sunny skies! Dinosaurs seem to be a perennially favourite topic for children - so great to encourage reading. And it's always lovely to meet dinosaur fans and collaborate with other authors. 🦖🦕

As the founder, publisher, editor (and tea lady) at Dinosaur Books Ltd, I was beyond thrilled to be longlisted, alongside Cheryl Diane Parkinson, for this year’s prestigious Branford Boase Award. Dinosaur Books Ltd was the smallest press to be listed in the awards – which was entered by 30 different publishing houses. The award was set up in 2000 to celebrate the most promising book for readers aged seven and upwards. It recognises a first-time children’s novelist and the importance of the editor in the development of new writers.
The co-founder of the award, Julia Eccleshare is a stalwart of children’s publishing. She described the award as highlighting “the most talented new writers for children and the editors who support them” – and I am so delighted to say that Cheryl and I are working together again on her next middle grade novel, which will be published in 2025.
