In that time we've supported thousands of people in prisons & the community to make positive life changes through the joyful process of creating original music – so we’re planning to celebrate in style! It was wonderful to be part of the event by National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance & CLiNKS Family Network talking about the impact of our family-linked projects in prisons & the community with participants, including the , creating songbooks for children and putting on special family shows in prisons. Thanks to the audience for asking such interesting questions and of course to our amazing participants for speaking so openly and powerfully about their experiences.

📢CALL OUT FOR EARLY-CAREER COMPOSER! ⭐ In May as part of the we’ll be collaborating with parents who have experience of the criminal justice system, supporting them to write lullabies for their children. We have an exciting opportunity for an early-career composer to join us.
The Lullaby Project supports parents in challenging circumstances to write and record original songs for their children. The project was originally devised by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute in the US and brought to the UK in 2017 by ITT in partnership with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. More information about the programme & examples of the songs and their style can be found on our website (link in bio).
Your role will be to co-create a song (3-4 minutes) with one of these parents for a small ensemble of RPO musicians and a singer.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Attend a 1-hour online induction with ITT and RPO staff
- Collaborate with a parent in a 3-hour writing session on 6th May 1– 4pm, in London, to generate musical ideas and lyrics
- Compose and arrange the co-created song for the specified ensemble (instrumentation details provided at the online induction)
- Receive valuable mentorship from ITT’s Lead Composer, Nick Hayes
- Be present at the recording & performance session on 23rd May 10am – 4pm in London
WHY YOU’RE PERFECT FOR THE ROLE:
- You’re a socially engaged composer with a demonstrably strong musical background
- You possess a passion for creating music that resonates with families
- You have excellent collaboration skills and enjoy working creatively with others
WHAT WE OFFER:
- A rewarding opportunity to contribute to a meaningful community project
- Collaboration with musicians from the RPO

- Your song will be performed at a concert at Rich Mix London & live streamed; a recording of the song will also be made available on our SoundCloud page

The Irene Taylor Trust: Creating Music. Transforming Futures.
Creating original music collaboratively can have a powerful impact on people’s lives, bringing them new confidence, important transferable skills and raised aspirations for the future. We support people of all ages in prisons, previously imprisoned people rebuilding their lives on release, and young people experiencing challenging circumstances in the community, working with around 600 participants each year. The quality of our work was recently recognised by the Royal Philharmonic Society with their ‘Gamechanger’ award.
About you – who we’re looking for to join our board:
We’re looking for Trustees to join our welcoming and productive Trustee Board - in particular, we are looking for a Finance Trustee/ Treasurer to take a lead on overseeing our finances (c. £500k and in good order). This is an exciting time to join the team, as we look ahead to celebrating 30 years of the Irene Taylor Trust in 2025.
At the Irene Taylor Trust, we understand that diverse perspectives strengthen our work and help us better serve the communities we aim to uplift. We actively encourage applications from individuals who bring a wealth of different experiences, particularly those from Black, Asian, and other global majority backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ communities and neurodiverse individuals. We are also eager to hear from those who may not have previous trustee or board membership experience but are passionate about making a difference. Your voice is valuable. Finance Trustee role details:
We are looking for someone with a skill for numbers to take the lead at the Trustee Board concerning keeping our finances in good order, meeting financial governance requirements and thinking strategically. This role is formally referred to as the Treasurer. We have a Fundraising and Finance Committee which you would also join alongside our Vice Chair, who is an investment professional; this meeting is also attended by the office staff responsible for our fundraising and finances; you would chair this committee. You would also have occasional involvement with the office team in approving larger payments or verifying financial aspects of reports for funders.
