TOMORROW IN SILICON VALLEY: gravel running with Salomon.

Come try out a pair of the Salomon Aero Glide 4 gravel shoes. They're absolute bangers for the road or light trails. Roll up, city runners!

🗓️ Wed 5/20 @ 6.30pm
📍

We'll run, we'll meditate (no apps, just us), we'll talk about unlocking creativity, we can also talk about apps. When in Rome...

This is a multipurpose book! You can even make biscuits with it? The ultimate compliment.

Thanks SO much for buying This is Running, telling your friends, telling me about strangers reading it, reviewing it, using it as a doorstop, and everything else.

I'm just happy to be here.

Love,
Raz xx

79hrs and counting in PDX (delayed flight 🤮).

Thanks for running with me. I'm now in love with Forest Park. I'm also in love with Nong's. Good stuff.

I forgot to take a photo of my book in front of Fleet Feet PDX, but at least a blurry photo of me looking miserable is now added to the list of mandatory images.

Most importantly, this was my first 20-mile week in over a year, and my heel feels AOK. Maybe I'll get to run 4 miles with Venice RC tonight? Let's see how this flight goes.

42hrs in Minneapolis with Salomon and was a dream.

I ran 7 miles through the city straight after landing, taking in a couple of stadiums, a couple of bridges over the Mississippi, a couple of historic sites, a Jucy Lucy.

Yesterday, I tested out the gravel trails of Murphy-Hanrehan Park, had some good, good conversation, and even got to bond over some obscure Scottish rockers with a trail legend.

If every trip could be like this!

Flashback to London Marathon week where I hosted a panel for where we reimagined the future of running media.

The good old days of running media are right here IMHO. On the panel we had new magazines, established magazines with a great grasp of data, specialist magazines, newsletters with brand focus, newsletters with people focus, people with a digital focus, and me with a book.

We've got it ALL, so let's celebrate and support it or you (yes, you) will be left with nothing.

And I REALLY loved the question ripping down the reposter IG accounts. They're all a useless scourge on our digital lives. F**k 'em.

Big respect to Tracksmith for prompting an important conversation 😘

I'm on my way to my 18th (I think) state: Minnesota.

If you're in the Twin Cities area, come see me for a run from tomorrow, 5/12 at 6pm. It's the next stop on the Salomon Off Track Gravel Tour, so you can try out the new Aero Glide 4s as well.

Any tips and suggestions for your favorite things to do in Minneapolis are very welcome. It's a BIG running city, with both the Mayor and Governor leading with health.

Can't wait.

Love,
Raz 💜

While I was in London, I was invited to try out the brand new Apple Watch Ultra 3, which is designed for runners.

I was shipped out to Battersea to run with the Apple Fitness+ trainers and a bunch of excellent people running the London Marathon, including Jordan Adams who ran it with a 55lb/25kg fridge on his back. Great/awful story there.

It's a very nice watch, with some excellent software. I'm looking forward to flexing on some track workouts. If I can find a track, that is.

I've also had to get an iPhone tho, which - as a longtime Android user who was quite happy with his Pixel - has caused quite a fuss in my text messages. Or iMessages. Whatever

Any tips from Disciples of The Blue Bubble to help me fall in love with this iPhone are VERY welcome.

We're being sold ~stuff~ left, right, and center, so what's good? Stuff with pockets, probably.

Pockets? Why pockets? Because it shows that the founders/designers give a s**t. They understand what their customers need.

When those customers are women, for instance, female founders know that they've been historically underserved when it comes to pockets. It might seem flippant, but that's because it's so absurd.

Pruzan is one of those brands and they want to marry comfort and style; performance and pleasure.

I spoke to Jessie Hyman and Lexy Copithorne about why Pruzan has to exist.

If the article isn't in your inbox, simply comment POCKETS, or talk to me about pockets, and the IG robot will send you a link in your DMs.

I'd like to improve upon the placeholder title of Running and Writing with Mario & Raz.

We've started an every-other-monthly series of live conversations focused on writing about running. Yesterday's recording was totally banjaxed, but the next one will be fine, I'm sure.

I'm not sure, however, that the AI-generated captions are going to help RAZIQ RAZIQ RAZIQ RAZIQ RAZIQ, but thanks anyway, Substack.

Any and all ideas welcome.

London Marathon portraits
📸 Can't remember / never asked their name

A wonderful week where friendships were both forged and consolidated. Old (but still young) friends, the oldest friends (my parents), new friends, internet friends who I met IRL for the first time.

We were all there for the running, but it's always about the people. Good times.

Yes, I'm stringing out the London content. Yes, I've got another couple to come. Sorry!

Shot on Portra 400 on my Ektar half frame, and lovingly developed by once I got home.

Love ya,
Raz xx

We can treat our running like an obsession, but that's because we're trying to be the best we possibly can be. Dan LaMorte understands that deeply.

Having honed his craft as a stand-up comic over the past decade, he's simultaneously been improving another part of his life, as an ultrarunner.

Going through 200lb weight loss, broken limbs, and a broken heart (in both ways), we find Dan today at a point where all that obsessive hard work appears to be paying off.

Go and read my profile of Dan at www.runningsucks101.com. It was in your inbox on Friday because my schedule was all upside down last week.
