Southgate BTEC Level 2 students recently took part in an inspiring SEN Festival, organised by the Enfield Physical Education Team.

Our students led a range of inclusive sports activities, creating a fun, supportive environment where all participants could enjoy being active and build confidence. From adapted games to skill challenges, every session focused on participation, teamwork, and positivity.

It was fantastic to see our learners demonstrate leadership, empathy, and professionalism while making a real difference in the community.

A big well done to everyone involved for making the event such a success!

On Thursday 7th May we said goodbye to Year 13 on Leavers' Day. It was an emotional day for the students, the majority of whom have been with us for the last seven years. We had a fantastic assembly, giving out prizes and awards followed by pictures and shirt signing. We wish the students the very best of luck in their A-levels and will see them all at Prom on the 24th June.

Southgate School Sixth Form is incredibly proud of the Oaktree Special Educational Needs School Tutoring Programme which we are currently running for a fourth consecutive year. More than 30 Year 12 students are taking part in the programme which gives them an opportunity to gain valuable work and life experience tutoring students with special needs and supporting them with their studies. The Programme runs from September-May. This opportunity is not only an enriching and valuable experience for our students, but also a chance for them to be a part of the wider local community.

Southgate School students took the stage at the Enfield Schools Music Showcase to celebrate the borough’s exceptional music education.

Held at the Millfield Theatre, the event brought together pupils from primary, secondary, and special schools across Enfield to share their musical achievements with the community.

The school, part of The Middlesex Learning Trust, was represented by its Jazz Band, Guitar Ensemble and Concert Orchestra. Students from Year 7 to Sixth Form played a crowd-pleasing repertoire, featuring Layla by Eric Clapton, Uptown Funk arranged by Michael Sweeney, Tequila arranged by Mark Taylor, and music from F1 The Movie by Hans Zimmer.

Parents and community members enjoyed an evening of outstanding musical performances while supporting the young musicians.

The Enfield Schools Music Showcase is part of a broader festival programme organised by Enfield Music Service, highlighting musical opportunities for young people in the borough. These events enable students to perform in a professional venue and share their music with a wider audience.

Louise Barker, Head of Music at Southgate School, said:

“Our students were an absolute credit to our school. Their performances were both polished and enthralling, and they looked and sounded very professional. Mr Huang and I are very proud of them and the hours they have committed to rehearsals for the event this term. We have received a great deal of well-deserved, positive feedback from parents, audience members and even student performers from the other schools involved.”

A Southgate School parent who attended the showcase added:

“I was incredibly impressed with last night’s performance at the Millfield Theatre. The level of talent in this group is fantastic, and the passion clearly flows from Ms Barker and Mr Huang right through to every student on stage. Each student looked so well-presented, engaged, and professional. As a parent, I felt so proud that my child was wearing the Southgate uniform.”

On Wednesday, all Year 10 students at Southgate School took part in our Rule Your Revision sessions. During these workshops, students explored the most effective ways to revise for exams and learned how developing strong routines early on can lead to long-term success.
The key messages shared were:

- Plan ahead and establish strong routines
- Categorise your subjects and topics
Find the right strategies that work for you
Stick to your plan consistently
- Believe in yourself and your ability to succeed

These sessions are designed to help students approach their upcoming exams with confidence, structure, and resilience.
Well done Year 10 for engaging so well!
