A huge thank you to our whole school community for coming together to support the Earthquake Appeal for Turkey and Syria. Collectively we raised an amazing £880.00. Thank you for your support and care.
Our girls football team had a surprise last night at their football match. Lois Roche, who plays for Charlton Ladies first team, came along to show support for girls football. She spent time talking to our girls and gave praise for how well they played their game. The girls were very pleased to have met her.
We would like to say a huge thank you to East Wickham's school community for all of their support this term in giving generous donations, so that we could provide food parcels, clothing and prizes to our children and their families. We wish you all a very happy holiday! 🎄🎄❤️❤️
Christmas is coming... Please read the letter coming home this evening and posted on the website, detailing all of the events taking place in the last couple of weeks of term.
New School Governor opportunity
The governors at East Wickham are looking to find new members of our local community who would be interested in joining the school’s governing board.
Governors act as critical friends to the school. We provide both support and challenge to the school leadership team as we review the progress and achievement of our pupils. We work with the school staff to ensure that children have a safe, nurturing and stimulating place to learn, not just the core subjects the school offers like reading, writing and maths, but also the values and behaviours that we believe will give them the best possible start in life.
Governors visit the school regularly, observing lessons, speaking to children and hearing their thoughts on what they are doing and how they feel at school. We also speak to the staff and parents to understand how they feel things are going across the school. There are also four meetings at school each year.
No formal qualifications or experience are necessary to become a school governor. The best governing bodies are made up of a diverse set of experiences, opinions and backgrounds reflecting the schools and communities they serve. Where required training can be provided.
If you would be interested in learning more, there is information on the school website, or please contact the school office.

Today sees the start of antibullying week. At EWPA we have started our week with 'odd socks Monday'. We are all unique and special, but mostly we are all important and deserve to be safe and happy.
Happy Monday everyone😊
We are incredibly proud of Alfie, who came first in the K1 Thai-Boxing World Championship.
What an amazing achievement.
A big thank you to our whole school community, friends and neighbours. Despite a delayed start we had another amazing display. Thank you for your patience and understanding - we are thrilled to say that we have raised over £3000 for our children. A BIG thank you! Same again next year?!
We are looking forward to seeing lots of you at our fireworks event this evening. It's lovely and dry today but please remember to wear your boots as the field is muddy!
Mrs Moore and Mrs Whiley are looking forward to our two 100% attendance children pushing the button.
Get ready with your 'oooh's' and 'aaaaah's'!
We are delighted to be holding our annual fireworks event. Please come along and enjoy a fantastic evening...

We express our deepest sympathies for the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. Her dedication to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and to her other realms and territories is unparalleled and we thank her for her service. EWPA will observe the mourning period but continue to support our pupils, families and staff.
Welcome back! We have loved hearing all about your summer break and what you have been up to. We are so happy to be back with you all and can't wait to dive into our first topics - Ancient Greece and the digestive system!
We are looking forward to welcoming back our children and families on Monday 5th September - 8.50 for KS1 children and 8.45 for KS2 children. We hope that you have all had a wonderful break.
See you soon.
To our wonderful East Wickham family. We wish you all a restful summer holiday. Thank you from Mrs Moore, Mrs Whiley and all the staff for your generous gifts and kind words. We will look forward to seeing each and everyone of you in September.
To our wonderful Y6 children- Go and be amazing at your secondary schools and remember you are always a part of the EWPA family.
Best Wishes to you all
On Wednesday 6 of our children from Year 4 and Year 5 attended the '24 challenge' maths challenge at the Civic Centre. They did extremely well against other Bexley schools. They won 7 medals in total! We were so proud of their team spirit and for being supportive of others. Well done to you all for your determination and perseverance- it paid off!
We have had a wonderful day celebrating the occasion of Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee. The children looked magnifcent in their crowns and everyone enjoyed a celebration picnic lunch with music and a rendition of God save the Queen - despite the weather!
Tonight, the children will bring home a Jubilee memento to mark this amazing achievement.
****Y6 parents****
As we approach the Y6 SAT's week, we have added a number of resources to the Wellbeing section of the website. Don't forget there will be a Y6 breakfast from 8am every day Mon-Thurs. We know that our children will do their very best next week and we are here to support them every step of the way. Go Y6 😀!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Today it was 'Yellow Day' at East Wickham. We raised nearly £1000 across the school for the refugees of the Ukraine. An enormous thank you to all our children, parents and staff. This will be sent to the DEC and the Red Cross to add to the aid being provided to the children and families.
Each child made a home made sunflower to represent the national flower of the Ukraine. We decorated our corridors to remind us of why we are caring and supporting other children around the world.
In Year 6 we have been reading Leon and the Place Between. We imagined that we were Leon being placed into the magician's box and described our own fantasy world we would like to have been transported to.
Jo-Jo 6S
The air around me crackled and fizzed as I was tumbling relentlessly towards the in between. Hundreds of people were surrounding me. Children in rags are running past me. Down the street, someone is yelling “Po***ck, fresh Po***ck! Buy three for 1 shilling.” The smell of salt is stinging my nostrils. Noise is coming from a large building. The sign says “ale and beds since 1862”. Boats are being pulled out with 5 to 6 men on each one. Nets and oars are lying around. Children in bathing suits are splashing in the water, laughter and giggles enter my eardrums. The cool sea breeze is tickling my cheeks. I am strolling down the street taking in every breath when I notice the atmosphere abruptly changes. The market is now in the distant horizon and an unwelcome stench fills my nostrils. This part of the town was less crowded. In addition, it has less warmth. Suddenly, I came to a halt standing in front of a large 2-storey building. Its’ bricks are worn and in large letters it says “workhouse”. Right at that moment, I knew I should turn back…

The air around me crackled and fizzed as I tumbled relentlessly towards a new dazzling, magical world. I make my way through my new luxurious world, while hearing far in the distance many birds chirping sweetly to the sound of a quiet, calming tune. While bouncing from mushroom to mushroom, I can taste the delicious, mouth-watering taste of candy floss as if it is falling from the sky. Feeling amazed, I make my way through a mystical, enchanted forest. I experience seeing many wonderful, thrilling things including magic pathways, stories and high glistening wings; it felt like I was in a real life storybook. As I reach far out into the crispy air, I can feel tingles on my fingertips of white fluffy clouds. Making my way through the vibrant, blue sky, I can smell the bright colour of the rainbow. While I swing high into the sky, I can hear the waves splashing in the bitter, blue sea.
Year 2 have been exploring The Twits book. They each made their own Roly-Poly birds. The children loved being creative and getting a little bit messy.
Children in 2L created a life size Mr Twit. Lots of team work was involved and Mr Twit is now living in the KS1 corridor.
Today's book recommendation comes from Year 3. Leon and the Place Between by Angela McAllister is an enchanting, vibrant and exciting book that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of wonder and awe that children experience during a magic show. The beautiful illustrations will grab any reader’s attention taking them on Leon’s journey through the mysterious world of the place between.
Today's book recommendation comes from Year 6, 'Far from home' by Berlie Doherty. Lots of the children may recognise the author of this book as it is the story of the sisters from Street Child. In this book we discover what happened to Jim's sisters Emily and Lizzie after he was separated from them.
Year 4 have been looking at the book The Tunnel this week and have written some spooky setting descriptions. The teachers were very proud of all the work that was produced. Well done Year 4!
Andrew 4EJ
As Rose left the mysterious tunnel, she was attacked by a damp mist. The grey mist prowled around her feet. Above her, was a towering, gnarled tree staring daggers at her. The tree was twisted and there was bark suffocating it. She was petrified. Frightened, she ran quicker than she had ever before. Then she stopped. There was an eerie decay around her and the scary trees were moving as if they were tracking her. She felt as if she was being followed. Rose noticed a blank, grey tombstone.
Maia 4F
As soon as Rose left the mysterious tunnel, the sky was grey and heavy like cement. In the air, the freezing wind howled viciously. In the woods, Rose could smell old moss and mold that filled the air like giants farts! Below the canopy of rugged trees, there was a tombstone. The ground looked ready to swallow her up at any moment. She was anxious that a witch or a goblin was about to pounce…
Mrs Ali and Mrs Sansom would like to recommend the book, Mr Wolf's Pancake, by Jan Fearnley. Mr Wolf would like to eat some pancakes but he doesn't know how to read a recipe, write a shopping list or cook. Mr Wolf asks his neighbours to help him but they are not very keen until it is time to eat them. This is a fantastic book and perfect for Pancake Day!
Happy Book Week!
Each day this week there will be a book recommendation from each year group, today we start with year 4.
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
Year 4 Book Choice
This book tells the story of Edward Tulane– an impressive and immaculate china rabbit. He is adored by Abigail, his owner, who cares for him completely but Edward does not return her love. He is self centered, heartless and proud : he cares nothing for love and only thinks of himself.
One day, a terrible event occurs and Edward’s comfortable world is turned upside down. This is the start of the miraculous journey where he learns the value of love and the pain of loss.
This book is perfect for Year 4 readers and will delight their adults too! The story is an emotional ride for Edward and the reader will be with him every step of the way. A twisty ending brings the story to a perfect conclusion.
The novel contains several themes involving loss and recovery, kindness and compassion, and the journey to self-discovery. The main theme can be summarized by a quote from the book:"If you have no intention of loving or being loved, then the whole journey is pointless."
Keep an eye out for more recommendations throughout the week.
Miss Woods and Mrs Payton

Today something really strange happened - some our children aged to 100 years old!!
During our '100 days of school' celebration, Year 5 have been testing their writing skills by creating 'drabbles'.
A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely 100 words.
This was huge challenge! The children had to be entertaining but concise... it became quite frustrating 🙂🙃

The Chase
I was sprinting to the exit, getting chased by a vicious guard dog. I climbed up the ledge hurriedly but the dog still mauled my leg. I screamed in pain but carried on running. The exit was close but my leg was bleeding drastically. I finally made the big leap to the mind-control helmet but fell. As I tumbled, I saw what was underneath the unknown: a meat shredder! I waved my limbs rapidly but all that did was make more blood spill. I saw a rope and grabbed on, it burnt my hands. I then swung into the darkness…

Darkness
Hello, my name is Haily and I live in an orphanage. I have been patiently waiting here since I was four. I am quite lonely; I only read books and study. One afternoon, the teacher called us to line up at the door. Everyone was excited and then a wonky old man walked in. I took no interest knowing that he was not going to pick me. He steadily walked down the row of desperate children and stopped at me. He bent down, the air was cold and my chest was pumping. Surely he was not going to pick me?
Happy 100 days of school. Thank you to all of our children who made the effort to decorate/make amazing 100 t-shirts or dress up as 100 year olds. We have seen some fantastic activities taking place across the school from different ways of making 100 to writing a 100 word story - ask your children all about their 100th day! Also - an extra well done to those of you who have been in school for all of those 100 days. 🤩🤩
