What better way to usher in The Year of The Rabbit than by having not one, but two colourful dragons dancing their way around Yellow Hall . Our children were so excited celebrating Lunar New Year. They even managed to squeeze in a celebratory fan dance. ππ

We wanted to say a big thank you for all the wonderfully kind messages of support following the sad news that our former Headteacher, Paul Ryan had passed away recently. Many families left kind messages on our school page and the online book of condolence. We have passed these messages of sympathy to Paul's family, who have expressed their heart-felt thanks for the warmth and compassion shown. Paul's funeral will be held at Enfield Crematorium on 7th February at 12:00 noon, and you are welcome to come along. They also asked me to pass on the details of a Justgiving page, set up in Paul's memory to support Isabel Hospice and to think about a donation as opposed to sending any flowers for the funeral. Please follow the link below. Thank you.

Dear Families,
It is with great sadness that I have to report the death this week after a short illness of our former headteacher, Paul Ryan.
Paul was headteacher at The Winns for 15 years, from 2005 until his retirement in 2020. When he arrived, the school had experienced a difficult period and disappointing results. Paul's leadership had a hugely positive impact on the school and community in turning this round. He provided much-needed stability and worked hard to improve the quality and ambition of education for all children at our school.
His introduction of residential trips to Treginnis in rural Wales for Years 5 and 6 gave generations of Winns children a stand-out experience that was their most commonly mentioned highlight of their time at the school.
Paul was loved and respected in the school community. Our thoughts and most heart-felt condolences go to Kim his widow and family.

Our year 2, 3 & 4 children were treated to a live theatre performance inspired by James Sellick's fantastic book "There's A Rang-Tan In My Bedroom" on Thursday morning. Delivered by the Little Angel Theatre Company, the story was told using a magical mix of puppetry and music as the children found out about the devasting impact that industrial production has on precious habitats around the world. We are sure this will inspire our children to work together for a greener, healthier and kinder planet. π

This week in school we have been celebrating Black History Month by learning about the Empire Windrush, and the influence that black culture has had on our modern society. The children have learned about a range of important people including Baroness Floella Benjamin, Denzel Forrester and Aldwyn Roberts. They have completed fact files and worked on recreating their own versions of art work in the style of some of the artists they have learned about. Look out for a new display in the main lobby after half term to showcase all of the childrenβs work!
