New Moon in Cancer

Today’s New Moon falls at 22° Cancer.

The New Moon as the beginning of the lunar cycle, when the Moon is closest to the Sun and invisible to us.

Cancer is the first Water sign, a Cardinal sign, and is ruled by the Moon. Its key phrase is “I feel”.

The symbol for Cancer is the Crab, whose tough shell protects the vulnerable soft flesh inside. Cancer is associated with nurture, care, emotional sensitivity, self-protection and the need to belong.

As a Cardinal sign, Cancer also has initiative. It may act indirectly or sideways, but it can be tenacious and deeply motivated when something important needs protecting.

This New Moon is conjunct to Mercury retrograde in Cancer, bringing memory, reflection, communication and emotional understanding into focus.

What needs care?
What needs protection?
What helps you feel emotionally grounded?

Tomorrow: The Minor Arcana with Lisa Stockley.

The Minor Arcana are often seen as the cards of everyday life, but they also reveal the sacred within the everyday.

In this second seminar of the Tarot & Astrology Series, Lisa will explore the number cards in the four suits, looking at their deeper meanings and astrological connections.

Each card is assigned a planet in a particular decan of a sign, giving us a rich field of symbolism to explore.

Saturday 4 July
3.00pm to 4.30pm UK time
Online, live with access to the recording
£35

You can still book the full series and receive access to the previous recording.

✨ Astrology Weather for July ✨

July invites us to turn inward. With Mercury retrograde in Cancer opening the month, it’s a time to revisit, re-evaluate and remember what truly matters, a slower, more reflective chapter after the busyness of June.

From Venus settling into Virgo, to the emotional New Moon in Cancer, to the Sun’s shift into Leo and a culminating Full Moon in Aquarius, this month asks us to look back before we move forward, and to reshape the stories we tell about ourselves.

🌙 A few key dates to watch.

Our monthly Astrology Weather is written by Faculty student Zlatina Dimova. Read her full July report on our website, link in bio, or link below.

The Faculty of Astrological Studies is a non-profit organisation dedicated to astrological education.

The Sun has entered Cancer. ♋️

Happy birthday to all those born under the sign of Cancer.

Cancer is the first Water sign and the second Cardinal sign of the zodiac. Its key phrase is “I feel”, and it is ruled by the Moon.

The symbol for Cancer is the Crab, whose tough outer shell protects the vulnerable soft flesh inside. This is an image that speaks strongly to Cancer’s sensitivity, self-protection and instinctive need for emotional security.

Cancer is closely connected with the sea and as “tidal” in its approach to life, with moods and energy that may rise and fall, often following the phases of the Moon.

There is often a gentle, caring disposition in Cancer, alongside a yearning to nurture. Cancer is associated with the Mother, and with the impulse to care for others: children, adults, projects, pets, gardens, or whatever needs protection and support.

As a Cardinal sign, Cancer is not without initiative. It may act in a more indirect or sideways manner, like the Crab itself, but it can be tenacious, motivated and deeply protective of what it loves.

Keywords for Cancer include:

Emotional
Receptive
Tenacious
Caring

Cancer is also linked with family, emotional ties, belonging, the building of a secure nest or home, and the consolidation of one’s emotional ground.

As we move into Cancer season, we enter a time coloured by feeling, memory, nurture, protection and the search for emotional security.

Which tarot deck will Lisa be using in the Tarot & Astrology Series?

Lisa will mainly be working with the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, as many of the astrological correspondences connected with tarot come through the Golden Dawn tradition and the work of Arthur Edward Waite and Pamela Colman Smith.

Each card has its own symbolic world, and many have astrological attributions. Some of these connections work very beautifully. Others are more open to questioning, reflection and play.

And that is exactly what Lisa will be exploring in this series.

Rather than simply memorising correspondences, we will look at how tarot and astrology speak to one another through symbols, planets, signs, elements, numbers, decans and imagery.

Lisa will also bring in other decks, including the DruidCraft Tarot, one of her personal favourites, to show how symbolism can shift and deepen across different visual traditions.

This is a special four-part online series with the Faculty of Astrological Studies, exploring the Major Arcana, Minor Arcana, Court Cards and practical ways of bringing astrology into tarot readings.

Live online, with access to the recordings.

The full series is £125, or seminars can be booked individually for £35. Starts 27th June.

As a non-profit organisation, the Faculty is dedicated to astrological education, and this series is a wonderful opportunity to learn from an experienced Faculty tutor at an accessible price.

Tarot is a symbolic system.

So is astrology.

But what happens when the two are brought into conversation?

In this new four-part series, Faculty tutor Lisa Stockley explores the tarot deck through an astrological lens, looking at the Major Arcana, Minor Arcana, Court Cards and practical ways of bringing astrology into tarot readings.

No prior knowledge of tarot is assumed.
