Year 11’s last day on 22 May was truly bittersweet. From shirt signing on our iconic blue checks to capturing memories with friends, the day was filled with laughter, reflection and emotion. The Snack Shack buzzed as leavers collected their hoodies, marking the end of an important chapter.

A memorable Leavers’ Assembly brought everyone together, with videos, music and speeches that moved from light-hearted to deeply poignant. It was a fitting celebration of the journey our students have taken and the young people they have become.

As they walked away from CHSG, we were reminded that growing up means both holding on and letting go. We are incredibly proud of them and all they have achieved — and with less than a week left of exams to sit, they will be so missed.

On Friday 22nd May, the last day of this half-term, we will be holding a Yellow Accessory Day to commemorate our colleague and friend, Pauline Mellish, who sadly passed away last May. Ms Mellish worked as the Attendance Officer at Carshalton Girls for over 20 years and is greatly missed by us all.

To honour her memory and celebrate her love of daffodils, students and staff are invited to wear yellow accessories, such as socks, headbands, tights or nail varnish. We ask for a voluntary contribution of £1, which will be donated to the British Heart Foundation. Donations can also be made via Arbor; however, students can still bring in £1 on the day.

There will also be a special online assembly for the whole school, and yellow ribbons will be distributed.

We look forward to coming together as a school community to remember Ms Mellish and support this important cause.

Today, students in years 7-10 took part in our second Personal Development Day of the school year. Topics included travel safety, first aid, friendships, fast culture and lifestyle choices, as well as positive relationships and online misogyny.

Year 8 ended the day with a doughnut reward for the most parent surveys filled in.

We had a lovely time gathering to acknowledge the hard work and effort of the Year 13 cohort, ahead of their examinations, at the leavers ceremony. Students and staff were presented with awards and heard speeches from Mrs Norman, Mr Baumann-Winn, Sixth Form tutors, members of the Student Leadership Team and Miss Ishola. This was followed by an afternoon of refreshments and creating fond memories to see in the examination season on a positive and encouraging note.

GCSE students had an inspiring visit to the BRIT School Dance Showcase, experiencing a range of powerful and dynamic performances. From contemporary to high-energy routines, each piece showcased incredible skill, creativity and storytelling. The trip offered valuable insight into dance beyond GCSE and has inspired students to continue exploring their creativity with confidence.

Four of our Year 9 students travelled to Liverpool this week to attend the Premier League Inspires event with the Crystal Palace mentoring programme. Here, they presented their work on raising awareness of PTSD.

Additionally, through a recent school bake sale and other fundraising events, they successfully raised £110 for the Sutton Mental Health Charity.

A huge thank you to Crystal Palace for all their support and 1-to-1 mentoring - this has had a significant positive impact on our students.
