It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our much-loved colleague and friend, Mike. 😢

Mike wasn’t just a member of the Optima team – he was part of what made this place feel special. Whether you were a colleague, a student, or someone meeting him for the first time, Mike always had time for you. He was the first to offer support, the first to make you laugh, and someone who genuinely cared about the people around him.

If you knew Mike, you also knew about his legendary love of coffee. Fifteen cups a day might sound like an exaggeration… but anyone who worked with him knows it probably wasn’t. There was rarely a moment when he wasn’t walking around with a coffee in hand, ready for a chat or to help someone out.

Mike was always one of the first people in the office each morning, coffee in hand and ready to brighten everyone’s day. It became a bit of a tradition that he’d send a funny photo or meme first thing in the morning, making sure everyone started the day with a smile. His humour, kindness and ability to lift the mood were part of who he was, and it’s something we’ll all miss more than words can say.

Mike leaves behind a huge hole in the Optima family. He will be remembered not just for what he did, but for how he made people feel – welcomed, supported, valued and happier simply because he was around.

Our thoughts are with Mike’s family, friends and everyone whose lives he touched during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, Mike. Thank you for the laughter, the kindness, the endless coffees, and the memories. You’ll always be part of the Optima family. ❤️
