The slash and spread technique - this is how you add a trapeze shape to any pattern. 🧵

Cut, pivot, insert, tape. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes once you know what you’re doing.

This is from my tie neck halterneck top pattern drafting tutorial - full video on YouTube now. Link in bio.

No serger? No problem 🧵

This mock French seam gives you a beautiful enclosed finish on the inside of your garment - and you sew it with just a regular machine.

Perfect for silks, chiffons and lightweight cotton and linens. Works on curves. Beginner friendly.

Behind the seams 🧵

My YouTube videos from a different angle - the making of a tie neck halterneck top from bodice block to finished garment.

Inseam pockets shouldn’t drift to the back or twist inside the garment.

Correct pocket orientation is what allows the pocket to naturally sit towards the front of the body.

It’s a small detail - but it makes a big difference to comfort and finish.

I go through this properly in my new YouTube video on Inseam Pockets.

There’s more than one way to sew an inseam pocket - but the results aren’t identical.

Construction order affects bulk, seam behaviour, and how the pocket sits in the finished garment.

Neither method is “wrong”, but understanding the difference helps you choose the best option for your fabric and design.

I break this down in more detail in my Inseam Pocket class on YouTube - launching today.

Sewing an invisible zip is only half the story.

The real challenge is attaching the lining neatly so the inside looks clean and professional.

This comes down to construction order - not hand sewing or magic tricks.

I demonstrate a clear, repeatable method in my current dressmaking series.

This step gets skipped all the time - and it shows in the finished option.

Stabilisation isn’t optional, especially around necklines and armholes. It’s what keeps the shape, prevents stretching, and makes a dress last.

I go through this properly in my current dressmaking series on YouTube.

If your side seams keep ending up longer than the front and back, it’s usually not a sewing issue.

Side seams often sit on the bias, which means they can stretch and change length before the garment is even assembled.

This is something that’s best understood and managed at the pattern stage.

I explain how to deal with this properly in my current dressmaking series.

Low V-necklines don’t gape by default.

When they do, it’s usually a drafting issue - not the body and not the sewing.

Pattern adjustments matter more than most people realise, and they’re best fixed before you cut fabric.

I cover this properly in my current dressmaking series on YouTube.

I made this dress - and I’m breaking the whole process down for you ✂️

Over the next two weeks, I’ll be sharing a step-by-step series: drafting, sewing, fitting, and all the details in between.

If you’ve ever wanted to understand how a dress actually comes together, this one’s for you.

Class 1 - Drafting the pattern is LIVE on YouTube

Class 2 - Sewing the pattern launches next Sunday 8am AEDT
