We are very excited to be having a visit from some Alpacas at the end of February. Whilst we are waiting to meet them we will learn all about their natural habitat and what their wool is used for. We will send out further details nearer the time.

We have had a very busy time since coming back from the half term break. The children have made cheese scones and potato salad and have also had a lot of fun making autumnal leaf dishes from clay and seasonal dried orange wreaths!

The children have been learning how to lay the Montessori red rods out in a maze and to then take it in turns to walk though it. This requires them to focus carefully on their path and to maintain good balance. They can also build them in to stairs or into a lovely sunburst shape - graded by length.

Yesterday the children learned about the artist Louise Bourgeois and her famous Spider sculptures. They then had a go at making their own sculptures from clay and pipe cleaners.

The stimulus for our next project will be The Four Friends by AA Milne. Please try reading it to your child and seeing if they can join in as they become more familiar with it:
The Four Friends
Ernest was an elephant, a great big fellow,
Leonard was a lion with a six foot tail,
George was a goat, and his beard was yellow,
And James was a very small snail.
Leonard had a stall, and a great big strong one,
Ernest had a manger, and its walls were thick,
George found a pen, but I think it was the wrong one,
And James sat down on a brick
Ernest started trumpeting, and cracked his manger,
Leonard started roaring, and shivered his stall,
James gave a huffle of a snail in danger
And nobody heard him at all.
Ernest started trumpeting and raised such a rumpus,
Leonard started roaring and trying to kick,
James went on a journey with the goat’s new compass
And he reached the end of his brick.
Ernest was an elephant and very well intentioned,
Leonard was a lion with a brave new tail,
George was a goat, as I think I have mentioned,
but James was only a snail.

Today, in our afternoon circle time, we looked at Colour Box Three and explored seven shades of Blue, Purple and Brown. The children enjoyed taking it in turns to grade them from darkest to lightest.
