We are aware of an article stating NCHE’s position on former ABMA learners who have enrolled in the final year of a university in Malawi after only undertaking a Level 4 programme.

ABMA Education has no links or articulation arrangements with the university in question.

We support the position of NCHE in ensuring students are enrolled at the correct levels. It is a matter of academic integrity that a student undertaking one academic year of study cannot move directly to the final year of a degree programme. Doing so misses crucial learning and will be perceived as trying to ‘skip’ academic years, which undermines the progression and hard work of other learners.

It is for this reason that ABMA forms official progression routes with universities at Levels 4, 5 and 6 with clear pathways to the correct years of entry. This ensures that when NCHE confirms a student can enter a final year, it is only after the required higher levels of study with ABMA have been successfully completed.

NCHE has our full support in taking action against institutions that prioritise registrations over robust attainment checks. We will always stand by the NCHE to ensure that the correct amount of study, whether with us or other boards, has taken place to protect the value of the student's qualification.
