The Angel coin revives one of the oldest and most storied designs in English coinage. First struck in 1465 as the gold “Angel,” the image of Saint Michael triumphant returns for 2026 as a modern bullion piece from The Royal Mint, struck in a full ounce of 999.9 fine gold, a design more than five centuries in the making, made accessible as investment gold.
The reverse, reimagined by artist Sandra Deiana, depicts the Archangel Michael at the height of his battle, driving his cross-tipped spear down into Satan, cast as a dragon, beneath his feet, framed by the Latin invocation Per Crucem Tuam Salva Nos Christe Redemptor, “By Your Cross, save us, O Christ the Redeemer.” A secure background pattern guards against counterfeiting. The obverse carries Martin Jennings’ official portrait of King Charles III.
As a UK legal-tender coin, it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and free of VAT, a full ounce of British gold carrying one of the nation’s most enduring designs.
