Thank you, to our dedicated staff team who have done a wonderful job raising donations and organising the fair on the day. We will be using any funds raised for resources and workshops.

Attendance today is 95%, which means we are almost hitting our target of 96%. We also had far less 'Lates' this morning which is fantastic. Being late can unsettle a child for the first lesson and sometimes, the rest of the day so it is really important to be in school on time every day.
Thank you for your support and let's keep it up.
Sports Day is on Thursday 27th June.

Punctuality
This morning we had another staggering amount of lates; 19!
A slight improvement to yesterday, but still very poor.
We cannot emphasise enough the importance of being in school on time.
Our school day starts at 8:40-8:55am - this is called a 'soft start' - and it ends at 3:30pm.
Children need to be in their class by 8.55 a.m so that they can start their lessons promptly. Children who arrive late are greatly disadvantaged because they miss starting the day with their peers and the beginning of lessons. This means that they are often unsettled and confused about tasks. Their teacher will not always be able to re explain work.
It is also very important that children establish good routines and habits in preparation for the rest of their lives. Punctuality is a life skill that they need to develop whilst they are young.
It is essential that you ensure that your child arrives at school on time to prevent disruption to your child’s own learning and that of others.
Let's work together to improve this over the next few weeks so that the children are used to their morning routine, ready for their next academic year!
STEEL PANS
Due to sickness, the Steel Pans after-school club on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th June has been cancelled.
We hope to resume to normal next week.
Thank you for your support and understanding.

At The Greenfield & Hurst Drive Federation we believe in the power of books and reading. Being a strong reader and loving stories is an excellent foundation for all learning and it is a skill all of our children need to be able to succeed.
Your children had a lovely time last week reading books together in our outdoor classroom. This will be set up again for lunchtimes this week so that children can carry on reading together and developing their love of reading.
Please make sure your children are in school, every day so they can benefit from this fantastic resource.
Please support us by purchasing some raffle tickets for the Summer Fair!
Please remember we cannot make this a success with your support.
A reminder that we will be holding a sponsored read in conjunction with Usborne Books from Thursday 13th to Monday 17th June.
To try and raise as much money as possible, we are also inviting children to wear non-school uniform on Thursday 13th in exchange for a £1 donation.
All classes will be encouraged to "drop it and read!" at a few points during the day through Tannoy announcements.
The outdoor classroom will be set up as a mini library on the 13th and 14th June so the children can access any books they may need for their bingo forms.
Please do encourage your child to take part by dropping by at lunch for a reading session!
Thank-you for your support, it would be fantastic to raise extra money for our book corners.
Let us know which of the listed activities you can do with your child!
🌈Nurture Room - Art Therapy
This week in the Nurture Room, children used their creative skills to colour templates in the style of leaded glass windows. This activity provided them with a wonderful opportunity to talk and express themselves.
🌈Nurture Room - Children Recreate Picasso's Masterpiece at the Nurture Room
Nurture Room children learned about the record-breaking sale of Pablo Picasso's famous painting, "Femme à la montre," which recently sold for an astounding $139 million at Sotheby's. Inspired by this iconic artwork, children from Reception to Year 6 embarked on a collaborative project to recreate Picasso's masterpiece.
The activity provided a calming and creative outlet for the children, allowing them to showcase their painting skills while working together. Each child contributed their unique touch to the recreation, resulting in a beautiful and collective work of art.
This project not only fostered artistic expression but also highlighted the importance of teamwork and cooperation. The children were proud of their accomplishment and enjoyed the process of bringing Picasso's vision to life in their own unique way.
The recreated artwork will now be proudly hung in the school, serving as a testament to the children's creativity and collaborative spirit.
Did you know that reading aloud to children not only provides a bonding experience with caring adults, but the simple act of reading aloud to child 15 minutes a day for five years results in 27,375 minutes of language exposure which can put children on the path to high literacy achievement.
Reading aloud opens up the world to children, helping them build knowledge and vocabulary. As children’s brains are rapidly developing, one of the greatest gifts we can give them is our time reading aloud. Children absorb practically everything they are exposed to in their environments, which is why story time is so essential to incorporate daily.
Young minds reading are at work, absorbing the vocabulary, language, lessons the characters learn, and so much more.
Reading to your child boosts their brain development, connection, and so many things that it is overwhelming how beneficial it is.
All it takes is books and time!
Here are more reasons why reading together as a family has so many benefits!
Builds Connection
Reading allows families to connect, plus it is a great way to spend time together and slow down after a hectic day.
Develops Language
Even though children may be too young to read themselves, hearing their parents/carers read to them is just as important.
Creates Listening Skills
Hearing a story aloud involves comprehension, and comprehension is dependent on paying attention, thus reading out loud is important.
Teaches Life Lessons
Children especially enjoy books that feature characters of their ages doing things they do in everyday life. This helps with your child’s understanding of what happens in various situations.
Broadens Creativity
Reading fictional books opens up a whole new world to your child.
15 minutes a day is all it takes!
…and Headteacher Awards for these boys too. They have all shown our Hurst Drive Learning Behaviours of Independence and Not Giving Up. Well done.
