The London Nordic Choir are preparing a special Spring/Summer to celebrate their 10-year anniversary. The London Nordic Choir have received support in the past from the Anglo-Swedish Society.

Join us for a celebratory evening as we take you on our musical journey through the past ten years as London Nordic Choir, led by Carina Einarson. As always, the programme will bring you a beautiful selection of Nordic choral music—some drawn from beloved traditional composers and others from contemporary voices shaping the genre today.

Program
This musical journey will include well-loved choral works such as Kung Liljekonvalje, Ubi Caritas, and Northern Lights. We’ve gathered some of our most cherished pieces to share with you once more. Of course we have added a few new pieces in the mix as well. Together they celebrate the magic of summer and the rich storytelling heritage of the Nordic lands, moving between major and minor with that distinctive, evocative Scandinavian choral sound. Come and join us on this special occasion! 🌼🌸🌺

Norwegian and Scandinavian History and Heritage in the British Isles – CALL FOR PAPERS DEADLINE 15 May, 12:00 am

The conference will take place on 6–7 October at the Norwegian Church Arts Centre, Cardiff Bay. The conference will be open to the public free of charge.

Since December 2023, the team at the Norwegian Church Arts Centre has been working on the National Lottery Heritage Fund–supported Norwegian Church Heritage Research and Outreach Project. As part of this project, the team has researched heritage relating to Norwegians in South Wales and elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

As the project comes to an end in November 2026, we are pleased to announce a conference connected to this work under the theme:

We invite proposals from academics, community historians, heritage professionals, public historians, GLAM-sector professionals, family historians, and members of the public with an interest in the conference theme.

Presentations may take the form of individual papers, panel sessions, lightning talks, creative panels, or other formats. We are also open to innovative and experimental proposals for conference activities that engage with the theme in new ways.

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

Viking heritage and Norse culture
Representations of Vikings and Scandinavians in popular culture and modern British culture
Heathenry in modern Britain
Migration and settlement patterns of Norwegian and Scandinavian peoples in the British Isles
Scandinavian communities in the British Isles during wartime (e.g. the World Wars)
Trade networks between Scandinavia and the British Isles
Scandinavian religious institutions in the United Kingdom
Historical Norwegian and Scandinavian communities in the British Isles
Contemporary Norwegian and Scandinavian communities in the British Isles
Transnational connections between Norway and the United Kingdom in historical and contemporary contexts
Scandinavian involvement in British industries (shipping, fishing, mining, engineering, timber, etc.)
Family histories and genealogies
Public history and heritage projects
Heritage and historical theory and method

We also welcome proposals on any other topics related to the conference’s overarching theme.

Please submit an abstract of 300 words to [email protected] by 15 May.

Subject to the level of interest and the suitability of submitted contributions, we aim to publish the conference proceedings in an edited collection.

Redoubt is a beautifully crafted and powerful debut, directed by John Skoog and produced by Ruben Östlund’s Plattform Produktion. Featuring a phenomenal performance by French actor Denis Lavant, and based on a true story, Redoubt is set in the Swedish countryside at the peak of the Cold War, where an eccentric farmhand, Karl-Göran Persson, becomes obsessively consumed with fortifying his house after encountering a pamphlet issued by the Swedish government, entitled If War Comes.

SWEA, Swedish Women’s Educational Association, will award a £1000 scholarship at their AGM in February 2026. The application deadline is 14 November 2025.

Anyone can apply for the scholarship regardless of nationality, age, ethnicity, gender, or religion. They must live, study or work in the United Kingdom. Knowledge of the Swedish language is an advantage but not a requirement. Applicants for the SWEA London scholarship must not have been members of SWEA for the past two years before the intended application year and should not be close relatives of a SWEA member.

The Nordic noir psychological thriller, UNMOORED, based on the Swedish novel The Living and the Dead in Winsford by Håkan Nesser will be showing in London this weekend. It follows Maria grappling with her domineering husband and the recent accusations against him. She confronts and reacts, then has to deal with the consequences. It's part Swedish, part English language and filmed across Sweden, Poland, and England.

The Anglo-Nordic Societies Midsummer Lunch and Reception at The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn took place for a second time this year after last year's success. We had as our Guests of Honour H.E. The Ambassador of Finland Mr Jukka Siukosaari and and his wife Mrs Mariella Siukosaari who will be leaving London soon and who have been very supportive of our Society. We were also honoured and delighted to have with us the Treasurer of Lincoln's Inn for 2025 Hon. Sir Paul Morgan. It was a sunny warm day.
