As you will have heard the Government have introduced a health charge to all international students coming for a course of 6 months or more from the 6th April 2015. This charge is £150 for each year of leave you request.

If you are coming for longer than a year, e.g. for 3 years of an undergraduate course, you will need to pay the entire amount up front. This charge is for the entire leave and not just the course length.

Before you apply for your visa you will need to obtain your Immigration Healthcare Surcharge (IHS) reference number.

In terms of working how much you need to pay, the UKVI have included a section on this on their website and it will help you calculate how much you need to pay:

You can apply for your HIS reference number from the link below:

The exact amount you have to pay depends on how much leave you’re granted. You can calculate how much you’ll have to pay before you apply.
