Meet George, Level 3 Museums and Galleries Technician Apprentice Blenheim Palace

“It took me a while to land where I am now – doing something that actually feels right for me. I studied microbiology at university, before changing to a computer science course. Unfortunately, university was never the best learning environment for me. After I left university, I worked in a chemistry lab but it turned out that a career in that sector was also not for me.

One of the best aspects of this apprenticeship is it prepares you for a broad range of potential jobs in the sector. From creating showcases and cleaning objects, to the vital administrative work that makes loaning objects, and by extension, exhibitions, possible.”

Meet Nadia, Level 7 Archivist and Records Manager Apprentice at The National Theatre Archive.

“Before starting this course, I was working at a university library, part-time, while studying for my undergraduate degree. In addition to this I undertook more volunteering opportunities within the Collections and Archives industry which inspired me to pursue a career in the Archives.

I had been following The National Archives plans to bring out a Level 7 Archivist and Records Manager Apprenticeship. As soon as I saw that the National Theatre Archive were recruiting their first archive apprentice, I applied and was lucky enough to be successful. This is a great way to gain practical skills and earn at the same time.

My favourite aspect of this apprenticeship is the opportunity to tour other archives and see how they operate.”

Meet Giulio our Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprentice

“I decided to come to the UK to work mainly. Before I started at WAES, I was working in the hospitality industry as an assistant area manager for a coffee shop. I wanted to be in a more professional setting where the experience is more serious and that's why working as an apprentice for WAES is a great opportunity as it’s helped me improve my English and skills in the workplace.

Before I started at WAES I was struggling to have a formal conversation over the phone but now, I'm more confident when it comes to answering the calls in a professional manner.

WAES has a good ranking, it’s a very good place to learn and work."

Launching National Apprenticeship Week with a spotlight on a week filled with achievements from learners and employers! 🌟 As we embark on this celebratory period, let's illuminate the remarkable journey of skill development and collaboration that brings to the forefront. Join us in recognizing the dedication and growth of at WAES. Here's to celebrating the transformative power of learning, mentorship, and the relentless pursuit of excellence!

Meet Eloise Howick, Level 3 Outdoor Activity Apprentice at Sayers Croft:

“ Whilst studying a two year level 3 course in conservation and countryside management, I discovered Sayers Croft and volunteered for them. After completing 150 hours of work experience, I continued volunteering two days a week, as I loved the atmosphere and adventure the staff created.

I had the opportunity to live on site, this was the first time living away from my family which was difficult at but I had the support of my colleagues and WAES staff through the entirety of the course.

The apprenticeship has helped me so much to develop my social skills, physical skills and confidence to stand up and teach a group of people about something that I am very passionate about, whether they are younger children, teenagers, or even adults.

Recently, I have been accepted by PGL Adventures another outdoor activity centre, to work as a Seasonal Activity Instructor."
