10 Mistakes New Models Make

1. Thinking modelling is just about being good-looking

Looks might get you noticed, but they won't build a career. You need confidence, presence, modelling skills, professionalism, personality and industry knowledge.

2. Thinking one portfolio shoot makes you a model

A portfolio shoot is just the starting point.
Modelling takes practice, training and experience, one great shoot doesn't make you professionally ready.

3. Waiting for opportunities to come to you

Treat modelling like a career and take an active role in creating opportunities. Market yourself, apply for jobs, approach clients, network and build relationships.

4. Not understanding what type of modelling suits you

There are many different categories of modelling.
Understanding your strengths and where you fit can help you focus on the right opportunities.

5. Not understanding how to build and manage your portfolio

Learn what makes a strong modelling image and be selective. Showcase your best work and remove anything that doesn't represent you well.

6. Over-editing your images

Your images should be a true representation of you. If you look completely different when you arrive on set, you're unlikely to be booked again.

7. Thinking you need an agency to succeed

There are plenty of opportunities for freelance models.
Learn how to market yourself, network, use social media and confidently find your own opportunities.

8. Not treating modelling like a professional job

Turning up late, being unprepared or ignoring messages can quickly damage opportunities. Be reliable, prepared and professional.

9. Forgetting that your personality & reputation matter

Be kind, polite and professional. It's a small industry, and positive relationships and a good reputation can lead to more opportunities.

10. Expecting success to happen immediately

Modelling takes time. Building skills, gaining experience and creating opportunities doesn't happen overnight. Stay consistent, patient and committed.

Another successful Runway Workshop in the books! ✨

We had the most incredible time on Sunday 26th July with our latest cohort of girls at London Model Academy’s runway training workshop!

Over the course of the session, our attendees worked on everything from posture and body alignment to mastering their stride, commanding the runway with confidence, and perfecting their runway pose - all under expert guidance designed to bring their walk up to professional industry standard.

It’s always such a joy watching our girls grow in confidence over just a few hours, and we’re so proud of everyone who joined us. Keep an eye out - there may be a few new faces scouted for upcoming London fashion shows! 👀✨

Hi everyone! Just a quick reminder that we still have a few places left for our Runway Masterclass this Sunday, 26th July.

This is actually our last runway workshop before September, so if you’ve been thinking about joining us, now is the perfect time.

We’re currently casting for three upcoming fashion shows – one taking place at the end of August and two during London Fashion Week.

Private sessions tailored to you. Learn how to pose for agency-standard Polaroids, receive individual feedback on your presentation, posture and expression, and build the confidence to create natural, professional images that agencies are looking for. Available by appointment.

📷 Posing & Camera Confidence Workshop | 25 July | 11:00–15:00
Develop your posing techniques, body awareness, facial expressions and movement in front of the camera. This workshop is designed to help you create stronger images, improve your confidence during photoshoots and understand how to work with photographers and direction on set.

👠 Runway Group Workshop | 26 July | 11:15–14:45
Our signature catwalk workshop focuses on runway technique, posture, balance, stage presence, rhythm, turns, confidence and walking in heels. Suitable for aspiring and experienced models, as well as anyone looking to improve posture, confidence and presentation skills.

Our sessions are led by LMA Founder & Director Michaela Harewood and/or Runway and Posing Coach Luise Hasse, combining practical industry training with personalised guidance in a supportive, professional environment.
