Changing Behaviour

you know you've made it when....your podcast is listed in the top 8 for teachers.

Thank you twinkl.

The podcast started as a bit of fun, but it's been such a great project for me. It's allowed me to meet some very generous, practioners (namely Dr Pooky Knightsmith Hesmondhalgh) but also practioners who I'm now conducting research with (as IF I'm a researcher!) Emma Clarke. Or an excuse to hang out with Debs Kemp (a mentor, friend and my actual teacher from school). Not to mention picking the brains of all the practioners I've interviewed. I love learning, which is why I do the podcast!

exciting news with the podcast to come soon, but for now, being in the top 8 is as much as I can handle! ;)

"Use mini whiteboards sparingly
I’ve seen more badly drawn male genitalia (for some reason it was never female genitalia) on a whiteboard than any teacher should see."
I wrote this blog a while ago, but laughter is such a healer, happy Friday!

I wouldn’t change anything about working in a PRU – for each hard lesson would be a smile, a laugh or an achievement that wiped away the difficulties

I've just been given the mammouth task by Routledge (well I wrote the proposal!) to write a book on reducing exclusions in school. I'm currently already interviewing lovely member on here Tsunami Dove I'm also looking to speak to other practioners in AP, PRU, SEMH or mainstream, as well as speaking to parent/carers of children who have been or are at risk of exclusion. Additionally, I am going to be interviewing students, again, if you can help with this do let me know. Interviews can be completely anonomous if needs be.

If you're interested just let me know and email me [email protected]

This doesn't go far enough... 'The government also announced 22 schools will benefit from Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforces' what's with the 'taskforce' name??? Sounds like storm troopers to me.

School leaders to spearhead scheme to prevent pupils from becoming involved in crime and becoming permanently excluded

To cycle or not to cycle to school????

I've been thinking about understanding this morning.

I work once a week with pupils with literacy and behaviour challenges. Through experience I think a lot of their challenges are down to being misunderstood or misunderstanding.

I work with YP to try and prove understanding; both in their emotional literacy and English literacy. A greater understanding in both these areas will help learning and behaviour.

I also work with teachers to help them better understand the pupils needs.

Perhaps the next step for my project is to look at younger children and see if we can get them to question a misunderstanding before it happens?

This is far too much questioning for before 6.00am.....
