CPD Online Event,
EMBEDDING CONTEMPORARY ART IN THE CURRICULUM: ANTI-RACISM
14 Jun
4pm–5.30pm
If you’re a teacher or educator wondering how to approach contemporary art and talk about it with learners in the classroom, join us for a focused session exploring connections between contemporary art and anti-racism. This session is hosted by Goldsmiths CCA in collaboration with South London Gallery (SLG) and Mountview where, alongside brief introductory prompts drawing on contemporary artistic practice (the work of Eugenio Dittborn) and a framework of big ideas for talking about art, we will be introducing Making Sense, a collaborative digital resource and online community that enables creativity to be used as a tool for exploring anti-racism, inclusion and recovery in our classrooms and institutions.
We will be using an ‘open space’ format for this event, which means that, following introductions, those attending decide what they want to talk about in response to the territory of anti-racism and contemporary art. It is an energising and powerful framework to enable conversations as a big group, through lots of breakout groups.
Open Space is a great opportunity to talk about and explore the change you’d like to see, challenges you might be facing in your practice, through exchanging with peers.
The event will be relaxed, informal and inclusive – we hope to foster a space for generosity and exchange.
The event will be hosted jointly by Trish Scott (Goldsmiths CCA), Neil Walton (Goldsmiths), Carey Robinson (SLG) and Sarah Preece (Mountview).

CPD: EMBEDDING CONTEMPORARY ART IN THE CURRICULUM – MOHAMED BOUROUISSA
22 Mar
4pm–5.30pm
Online event
If you’re a teacher or educator wondering how to talk about contemporary art with young learners, join Neil Walton, Subject Leader for PGCE Art & Design at Goldsmiths, Trish Scott, Engagement Curator at the CCA and secondary school art teacher Nuno Reis Moreira for some suggestions.
At this session we will examine a specific case study; the CCA’s upcoming exhibition of Mohamed Bourouissa’s work ‘HARa!!!!!!hAaaRAAAAA!!!!!hHAaA!!!’.
Through introducing Bourouissa’s work within a framework of big ideas about art, we will consider what makes his work ‘contemporary’ and provide some practical strategies for engaging with his art practice in the classroom.
This event is a follow on from ‘Embedding Contemporary Art in the Curriculum I‘, which set out a general framework for thinking about art in the classroom.
Within the session there will be time to reflect on your own classroom practice and needs, and ask questions and share ideas for how we might continue to support you over the coming year.
This event will take place online. Book via the link below. You will be emailed with information on joining the conversation a day before the session is due to take place.

The Art of Adventure
CAL Series on Discomfort Zones
Wednesday 25 March 2020, 5.30-7pm

Rob Pepper is an artist, designer and the current Principal of Art Academy London. On leaving school he made a vow to never get a proper job, in the fear that it would kill his creativity. In the past twenty five years Rob has often chosen a life of discomfort and actively embraced the unknown. Through this his creative practice has enabled adventures across many countries.
In 2003 he joined a small community of artists that wanted to challenge the way art education was being taught and he helped develop the Art Academy. Out of the discomfort of lack of finances and sector knowledge, this small art school is now fully validated with over 3000 students and 100 artists regularly employed. The Art Academy’s methods of teaching supports, nurtures and challenges whilst also being brutally honest about how to prepare for viable careers in art practice.
Join Rob as he shares his experiences of creative practice as well as what it’s like to set up, develop and run an alternative art school in Central London.
