🌼🦋 Big Butterfly Count 2026 🦋🌼

Today’s patients were a little more difficult to convince onto the scales… 😅

As part of this fantastic citizen science project, our learners and staff headed outdoors throughout the week to help monitor butterfly populations and contribute to vital conservation research 🧐

We were delighted to spot ✨seven✨ different butterfly species during our count!

Some of our learners even saved one from an old spiders web! 🕸️

Butterflies are important indicators of a healthy environment, and every sighting helps build a better understanding of how our wildlife is doing across the UK. With butterfly populations facing long-term declines, taking just 15 minutes to count can make a real difference.

⁉️Have you taken part yet? There’s still time to get involved and support this brilliant initiative by Butterfly Conservation .

We are incredibly proud to see one of our own students appointed as a new Student Representative on the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) Council! 🤩

Congratulations to Agne Burokaite SVN 💚

This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of Agne’s passion, professionalism and commitment to the veterinary nursing profession. We have no doubt that she will make a valuable contribution, ensuring the voices of student veterinary nurses are heard and represented 👏

💚At GVNC, we are passionate about supporting our learners beyond the classroom. That’s why we actively encourage and support BVNA student membership, helping our students access professional networks, CPD opportunities, wellbeing resources and a wider veterinary nursing community from the very start of their careers

💚The work of the BVNA is invaluable in championing veterinary nurses, promoting professional standards, supporting career development and advocating for our profession. We are proud to support their mission and encourage our students to get involved.

💚Congratulations again, Agne - we can’t wait to see all that you achieve in this exciting new role. We know you’ll represent student veterinary nurses brilliantly! 🥳

GVNC would like to say a massive thank you for celebrating Pride with us last month! 🏳️‍🌈✨

Seeing so many students get involved means more to the LGBTQIA+ community than words can express. Thank you for showing up, celebrating, and continuing to create a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported. 💛

This year we celebrated with:
🏳️‍🌈Colours
✨Sparkles
🧁Bake sales
📚Queer reads
💖Pride profiles — with students and staff sharing what Pride means to them
🏳️‍⚧️A “Design Your Own Pride Flag” competition
🏡Fundraising for Stonewall Housing (and reaching our target!)
🎵Britney Spears tarot card readings (if you know, you know 😉)

Alongside these colourful celebrations, Jesle delivered a talk to all cohorts at GVNC exploring the significance of Pride, its history, the importance of inclusivity, and practical ways we can all be amazing allies. Pride is more than the fun and flags! 🌈

A special shoutout to our amazing Pride Team of tutors and staff who brought endless ideas, creativity, and passion to this year’s celebrations 🥳

Although Pride Month has come to an end, we encourage everyone to keep these conversations going — continue acts of allyship, challenge inequality, and keep building inclusive spaces for all students and professionals.

Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈
