NVC Foundation Training - places open
What is NVC?
So, what actually is Nonviolent Communication?
It's a question I get asked a lot.
At its heart, NVC is a way of communicating that helps us become more aware of:
What we're observing
What we're feeling
What we need
And what we're asking for
But it's not simply a formula for putting sentences together.
It's a way of listening — to ourselves and to others.

City Lit

It's about becoming curious about what is alive underneath our judgements, reactions and disagreements.
And it's something you can use in everyday life:
with a partner, family member, friend, colleague, employee, manager — or yourself.
If you've ever thought:
“There must be another way of having this conversation…”
you might enjoy exploring NVC.
My Foundation trainings are designed for people who are new to NVC as well as those who want to refresh their foundations.

Starting 23 September — 6 Wednesday evenings
Starting 4 October October — 3 Sundays
Online with Tracy Seed.

“It is what it is.”
Have you ever heard this at work when you’ve tried to raise something that isn’t working?
You say:
“I’m struggling with the way this is being handled.”
“I don’t feel heard in this meeting.”
“Something about this situation doesn’t feel right.”
And the response is:
“Well… it is what it is.”
But is it?
Sometimes “it is what it is” is an invitation to accept reality.
And sometimes it becomes a way of ending the conversation before it has really begun.
Because beneath what may be perceived as a complaint there may be something worth listening to:
A need for clarity.
A need for respect.
A need for fairness.
A need to be included.
A need for support.
A need for change.
Emotionally intelligent leadership doesn’t mean making everything better.
It means being willing to stay present with what is happening — especially when it is uncomfortable.
Instead of:
“It is what it is.”
What if we asked:
“What is happening here?”
“What matters to you about this?”
“What would you like to see differently?”
That doesn’t guarantee we can change the situation.
But it creates the possibility of understanding.
And sometimes, that is where meaningful change begins.

What do you hear when someone says, “It is what it is”?

Have you ever said yes… when you really meant no?
Perhaps you didn't want to disappoint someone.
Perhaps you were worried about their reaction.
Perhaps you didn't even realise you had a choice.
Learning to recognise our own needs and boundaries is an important part of NVC.
And learning to express them doesn't have to mean becoming hard, selfish or uncaring.
It can sound like:
“I don't want to do that, and I'd like to find another way that works for both of us.”
That's very different from either silently agreeing or angrily refusing.
NVC gives us a framework for exploring collaboration.

NVC isn't about being nice its about being real

What difference can NVC communication training actually make?

This is what Ursula — Headteacher, London shared with me

“It has enriched my relationships with my team members in unexpected ways and had a real impact on the way I approach challenges within teamwork.”
I have put actioned many of the things I learned on the course and have seen an impact on team performance and the happiness of the team"

I'm offering NVC Level 1 Foundation training online this autumn.
23 September and 4 October dates are now open.

How can NVC help you with your communication ?
This is what one participant said after attending an NVC Foundation Training online.
“The small group sessions were perfect to create a safe, open space to learn and practice NVC skills together. I have done various personal development training over the years, but for me NVC brings everything together clearly and as I apply these techniques, I can see the positive difference they make to me and others.” - Lindsey, UK

I am offering two NVC Foundation Trainings this autumn you can find out more about these events here- www.tracyseed.com

What happens when communication becomes more than exchanging information?

In workplaces, many difficult conversations aren't really about the words being spoken.

They can involve unmet needs for respect, recognition, clarity, autonomy, trust or collaboration.

Nonviolent Communication offers a practical framework for becoming more aware of what is happening beneath the surface — while developing the ability to communicate honestly and listen empathically.

This can be particularly useful when:
• giving or receiving feedback
• expressing disagreement
• navigating conflict
• making requests
• working across differences
• responding when someone is upset or critical
• creating more collaborative relationships

I'm running two online NVC Level 1 Foundation trainings this autumn.
September: 6 Wednesday evenings, 23 September–28 October
October: 3 Sundays, 4–18 October

The training is suitable for people new to NVC as well as those wanting to refresh their foundations.

What if difficult conversations could become opportunities for connection?
Do you ever find yourself holding back what you really want to say because you're worried about upsetting someone?
Or saying yes when you really mean no?
Perhaps you become defensive when someone criticises you — or find yourself criticising someone else when you're frustrated.
Maybe you simply wish you could have difficult conversations without losing connection.
This is one of the reasons I love Nonviolent Communication.
NVC offers practical ways to bring more honesty, empathy, compassion and clarity into the conversations that matter to us.
It isn't about being nice all the time.
It's about learning how to stay connected while also being true to yourself.
I'm offering two online NVC Foundation trainings this autumn for people who are new to NVC or want to refresh their foundations.
🌿 September: 6 Wednesday evening sessions
23 September–28 October | 6:00–8:15pm
🌿 October: 3 Sunday sessions
4–18 October | 10:00am–2:00pm
The training is practical and experiential, with opportunities to practise with real-life situations, in pairs and small groups.
I'd love to welcome you.
