Australian consultants take so much money from UK tuition fees, only to make UK degrees less interesting, specific, and viable. We need an urgent limit on the use of external consultants.
In the meantime, we need managers who actually protect the valuable degree programmes they have and which have been built up with expertise over the years.

Fascinating that these kinds of deals get posted about on social media before any of it is communicated to students. These students are not the props in your influencer game, show them some respect.

International partnerships are not just for the photo-op and PR story about how good you are at internationalisation. The people on that partnership shouldn’t just be brushed aside or, worse, dismissed at trouble makers for trying to raise issues with the partnership. These students did everything they could, the institutions failed them.

The human cost of a sector bent on capturing cash and managers bent on careerism: shattered dreams, betrayal of years of work — on the degree and to survive in London because the stipend was only £10,800 per year.
The way these students are treated is unacceptable. How did it ever come to the point an official partner can simply pull funding midway through a degree? How come isn’t showing the same humanity as Durham in reassuring students that their finances are covered until the end of this year at least, to give time to sort things with the funder?
Staff and students alike have been ringing the alarm bell about this partnership and how it was administrated for years. Had QMUL acted and not managed away those concerns, we wouldn’t be in the situation where the degrees and visas of 30 students at risk.

Students haven’t been told about all the cuts to modules in the School of the Arts. They had to learn via their absence on the module selection platform (and this account…). Yet much of these cuts are done with the excuse of “student satisfaction”. Have the external consultants ever spoken with a student? On what basis do they declare what students want or need?
Let’s actually talk with students and staff about what is being done to our university and how we can act together.
Meeting for all students in the School of the Arts on 15 April at 1pm, in rehearsal room 2 and on MS Teams.

QMUL is planning to drastically change what a degree in the School of the Arts looks like. Say no to these cuts. Yes to these modules. If you’re a STA student, co-sign the petition. Link in our linktree in bio.

Management is planning to cut at least 295 modules in the School of the Arts. Those cuts destroy shared learning community and research & teaching excellence that has been decades in the making. They also decimate student choice.
Defend what makes QMUL QMUL. Defend what it means to make university: where students learn from the cutting edge of research. Defend the opportunities of upcoming generations.

The way management has been treating post-graduate students and casualised workers has been abysmal and quite the tell about how they are staff. But .pact has been organising brilliantly.
