Back to school, and fresh hopes for a new year 🕊️

This September, children are returning to the Primary School at Neve Shalom–Wahat al-Salam — a place where Jewish and Palestinian children learn together, side by side, in Hebrew and Arabic.

For more than 40 years, the school has been built on a simple but powerful belief that children are our future, and peace begins with learning to know one another.

We’re pleased to be joining Meretz UK tomorrow, Sunday 6 September in Highgate, for a special meeting featuring Samah Salaime, Palestinian citizen of Israel and Head of Development at Wahat al-Salam – Neve Shalom.

Samah will speak about Jewish and Palestinian voters in Israel as they face crucial elections, drawing on her experience as an activist, writer and leader within Wahat al-Salam – Neve Shalom.

All of us at The British Friends of Neve Shalom-Wahat al-Salam are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend Anthony Warshaw.

We pray for the peace and comfort of his family, his friends and his community.

Anthony Warshaw was a beloved supporter of the Village, serving for many years as a Trustee of the British Friends and a founding member of the British Friends of Neve Shalom-Wahat al-Salam.

Throughout his distinguished career as a publisher and editor, Anthony worked with Oxford University Press, the Israel Prime Minister’s Office, the Israel Foreign Office, the Hebrew University–Hadassah Medical School, J. M. Dent and the British Library.

He also served as Clerk to the Governors at The Henrietta Barnett School and as a Board Member of Muswell Hill Synagogue and the Society for Jewish Study.

He was a passionate believer in the strength of communities working together to bring about a more peaceful future, and was deeply committed to bringing people together in pursuit of a better world.

Join us for the 16th Annual Philip Rueff Lecture with Sir Malcolm Rifkind.

This year’s lecture, “One Land, Two States: Past, Present and Future?”, will explore one of the defining questions of our time: does the Two-State Solution remain the best path towards a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians?

Drawing on decades of experience as the UK’s former Foreign Secretary and Defence Secretary, Sir Malcolm Rifkind will share his perspectives on international diplomacy, leadership, and the future of the region.

“Perhaps it may seem naive. But I prefer to be naive and live with hope rather than die of despair.”

This summer, 13 Jewish and Palestinian young people from Neve Shalom – Wahat al-Salam spent nine days together in Italy, building friendships, asking difficult questions, and proving that another future is possible.

In a world that tells us coexistence can’t work, they quietly show us that it can.

Peace begins with people. 🕊️

Shared society and peace is not a dream. It is a choice people keep making. We’ll always stand with those who make that choice.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for last night’s panel discussion at The Liberal Jewish Synagogue in London.

We were grateful to welcome just over 50 guests, including senior leaders from across the faith and peacebuilding sectors, for a thoughtful and hopeful conversation about leadership, courage and responsibility in difficult times.

Our thanks to Dame Anneliese Dodds for chairing with such clarity, and to Rabbi Charley Baginsky, Shirine Khoury-Haq and Samah Salaime for bringing such honesty, wisdom and depth to the discussion.

Oasis of Peace, also known as Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam, is built on the belief that shared life is possible, even when it is difficult. Last night was a reminder that this work needs patient leadership, real relationships and people willing to keep showing up.

Thank you to everyone who came, listened, asked questions and supported the work of the village.

Women Building Peace: Leadership, Dialogue & Community Across Divides

The future of the Israel-Palestine peace movement hangs in the balance. After one of the most traumatic and defining periods in the history of the conflict, Oasis of Peace UK invites you to join four extraordinary women leaders working to build dialogue, coexistence and hope across divides.

Hear from Dame Anneliese Dodds DBE, British Labour and Co-operative MP; Samah Salaime, Palestinian citizen of Israel and Co-Director of Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam; Shirine Khoury-Haq, outgoing CEO of the Co-op Group and a Christian-Palestinian with Lebanese heritage; and Rabbi Charley Baginsky, Co-Lead of the Movement for Progressive Judaism in the UK and Ireland.

Together, they will explore the urgent challenges facing the peace movement today, the role of women in leadership and reconciliation, and how communities can continue to work towards a shared future. The evening will conclude with a live Q&A.

Samah Salaime met with MSPs Holly Bruce and Kate Nevens, along with Scottish Liberal Democrats leader Alex Cole-Hamilton, to discuss peacebuilding, dialogue, and the incredible strength found in grassroots cooperation.

We're truly looking forward to continuing these meaningful conversations and welcoming friends from Scotland to Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam very soon!

Oasis of Peace’s visit to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, together with our friends at Oasis of Peace UK, continued with a series of meaningful meetings in Edinburgh.

At the Scottish Parliament, Samah Salaime met with Scottish Greens MSPs Holly Bruce and Kate Nevens to discuss shared values of peacebuilding, dialogue, and social justice. She also met with Scottish Liberal Democrats leader Alex Cole-Hamilton, exchanging ideas on the importance of fostering inclusive societies and supporting grassroots peace initiatives.

These meetings strengthen the connections between Oasis of Peace and partners in Scotland, and we look forward to building on these relationships by welcoming political leaders and civil society activists from Scotland to Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam village in the near future.
