During the last 2 weeks of term, the children learnt about transport and travel through a range of exciting, hands-on activities. They enjoyed taking part in travel agent, airport and aeroplane role play, as well as camping role play, encouraging them to use their imagination, develop communication skills and work together with their friends.

The children also explored different forms of transport, learning where they belong, such as aeroplanes flying in the sky, boats travelling on the sea and cars driving on the land. These activities helped to develop their understanding of the world while supporting their language, social and problem-solving skills through play.

Back in the spring, the children enjoyed planting their very own seeds and learning about how plants grow. Throughout the term, they have taken great care of them by watering them every day and watching the changes as they happened. This hands-on experience has helped the children develop an understanding of what plants need to grow, while encouraging responsibility, patience, and a love of nature.

We are so proud of how much the seeds have grown, thanks to the children’s care and dedication. Please take a look at the photos below to see the amazing progress they have made!

Last week the children enjoyed learning about road safety through a range of practical and engaging activities. They matched different people who help us in the community to the buildings where they work and explored a small town, moving cars along the roads while learning about zebra crossings and traffic lights and how to use them safely. The children also had a special visit from a lollipop person, who demonstrated the correct way to cross the road safely and explained the importance of stopping, looking, listening, and thinking before crossing.

Last week the children learnt about the important role that police officers play in helping and protecting people in the community. They discussed how police officers keep us safe, help others in emergencies, and work to make sure everyone follows rules. The children took part in role-play activities, pretending to be police officers, dispatchers, and community members, which encouraged communication, teamwork, and imaginative play. They also explored a small-world police station setup, using vehicles and figures to create their own scenarios and stories. To extend their learning, the children enjoyed creating their own police cars using a variety of craft materials, developing their creativity, fine motor skills, and understanding of emergency services

Last week the children learnt about hospitals and the important roles of doctors and nurses in helping people stay healthy. Through role-play activities, small world play, and group discussions, the children explored how healthcare professionals care for patients, provide treatment, and support families. They enjoyed acting out different roles and talking about their own experiences, developing a greater understanding of how doctors and nurses help us in our community.

Last week we began learning about people who help us within our community. Learning about these important roles helps children understand how communities work, appreciate the people who help others, and know who to turn to when they need assistance. We started by talking to the children about Firefighters, providing them with roleplay, small world and reading different stories, fiction and non fiction on firefighters.

The children have been learning about weighing and measuring. This helps them develop early maths skills and understand concepts such as size, weight, and capacity. Through play and everyday activities, children learn to compare, explore, and use language like “heavy,” “light,” “full,” and “empty,” building a foundation for future learning.

The children have been busy making their own houses and planting cress seeds in the front gardens. They were very excited to start growing their plants and are looking forward to seeing them sprout over the next few days. We have asked our parents to share photos of how their cress is growing through tapestry so we can celebrate their progress together in the setting.
