Most parents think tutoring alone will get their children top grades - but this is simply not possible in most cases. The most significant determiner for grade 8s and 9s is the amount of daily independent focus time a student spends on revision.

Ok, so... what should a parent do? Sit down and talk to them, and really try to understand what they're thinking. In most cases, a child wants to focus and do well, but they're simply not able to do so. The primary culprit is time spent on social media. 'I knew it! It was TikTok all along!' - hold on, hold on. If you try to forcefully ban them, you'll just invite resistance, and they'll fight you every step of the way.

A far better approach is to have an honest discussion regarding the consequences of unrestricted access and create a plan that they are happy to follow.
