Internet Matters found that just half (53%) of young people who see news, politics or current affairs content online say they feel confident telling whether that information is true or false.
Consider using fact checking websites like BBC Verify, C4's FactCheck Blog, Full Fact, or The Ferret.

Without a single regulator for political ads, various bodies play a role in the regulation:
➡️Ofcom enforces a political ad ban on TV and radio
➡️The Electoral Commission UK oversees election spending limits, transparency and imprints
➡️The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) plays a role in data protection and privacy

Whilst political campaigns aren't subject to the same rules as commercial advertising, other laws do apply. For example, making false statements that damage a candidate's reputation could be defamation.

Did you know that whilst political ads aren't allowed on broadcast TV or radio, political parties are able to have airtime to broadcast party political messages? This doesn't count as advertising.
