As more and more people are returning back to Allah, the zeal and hunger for Islamic knowledge continues to grow. All too often however brothers and sisters spend much of their time studying a variety of Islamic subjects without understanding the framework and principles behind these subjects. This makes them susceptible to alien ideas and concepts that inevitably lead them away from the pristine teachings of Islam. They do not develop the neccessary depth of understanding and analysis of these subject matters and neither do they harness the crucial insight to apply this knowledge appropriately according to circumstance. This reality has contributed in an adverse way to the lamentable situation the Muslim community find themselves in; we are short and wanting of champions who are able to take the true pristine teachings of Islam and apply them to a contemporary context. As MRDF’s flagship development project, Sabeel has been setup to attempt to address these issues through a number of educational programs by creating leaders who have a firm grounding of the framework of Islamic principles and discerning ability in applying these principles. By aspiring to produce firmly grounded Muslim leaders who understand the specific needs of contemporary societies, we believe Sabeel has an important contribution in the articulation of classical Islamic principles in a manner that provides a platform for Islam to be the cure for all of humanities ills. Insha Allah, Sabeel will also prepare students as well balanced individuals who hold a strong link with their Creator and have the tools to understand Islam as a living, viable, and relevant faith, and who represent that faith with dignity, wisdom, and honour.
