It's great to see eager and happy Year 5 pupils enjoying the school library on International Literacy Day!

The friendly Upper School library is open every lunchtime for pupils to drop in, read with friends and select new books to take out on loan.

It's always very popular and today our resident librarian Mrs Emanuel was busy recommending books with an international perspective to widen their horizons further.

Inspiring a love of reading is at the heart of school life and judging by their smiling faces the children are enjoying it!

*Pre-loved Uniform Sale*

The SHC Parents' Association will be holding a second-hand uniform sale this Saturday 12th September in the Lower School Hall from 11.00 a.m. - 1.00 p.m.

Come along to purchase any last minute pieces! There will be a wide range of pre-loved uniform available, in a variety of sizes. All uniform items are in good condition with plenty of life left in them. Proceeds will go to the PA to fund their programme of special events and activities for the children.

Donations of good quality uniform are most welcome and may be dropped off at collection points at school entrances this week.

New year, new role!

At Upper School today pupils were pleased to be awarded new positions of responsibility, and collected their special badges to denote their important role.

Each term pupils from every form are selected to represent their peers on the School Council, Eco, Food and Charity Councils, which meet regularly to discuss plans to innovate and improve. From an early age the children learn about the principles of democracy and gain a vital understanding of the power of the pupil voice.

The children are already brimming with ideas for exciting initiatives and ways in which to contribute, so we look forward to empowering them to do so over the coming months!

We are exceptionally proud of our extremely high 11+ pass rate record and our 2026 Year 6 cohort are no exception!

An outstanding 100% of pupils who sat independent school examinations were offered a place at a school of their choice and an amazing 40% were offered a scholarship.

We prepare pupils carefully for their transfer at 11+ to senior schools, taking an individual approach. The Head meets with parents regularly from Year 4 onwards to discuss senior school choices and to offer bespoke advice and guidance.

From the earliest years in our Prep School, we lay strong foundations in core academic skills, ensuring that every child is equipped with the tools they need to succeed.

Congratulations to our 2026 leavers who this term are beginning their next chapter at some of the best schools in the country including Merchant Taylors' School, Northwood College, St Helen's School, Haberdashers' Girls, John Lyon, Royal Grammar School High Wycombe, Dr Challoner's Grammar and Beaconsfield High.

Towards the end of the Summer Term, Year 6 pupils completed an intensive week of Bikeability training to learn practical skills and understand how to cycle safely on busy roads.

Throughout the week they mastered the basics of bike control and safety at Level 1 and gained further competence at Level 2, riding out on the roads surrounding school.

The children gained invaluable skills and confidence to negotiate parked cars, other road users, roundabouts, junctions and crossroads.

Life skills are an important element of the curriculum at St. Helen’s College as we support children’s all-round academic and personal development.

We hope pupils have enjoyed putting their skills into action over the summer and will consider commuting to their new schools by bicycle if they can!

Join our FREE Mother and Baby Mindfulness Classes on Wednesday mornings during term time to pause, relax and meet other local mums. Enjoy a guided Mindfulness practice and gentle yoga for mums.
