Study Sahih al-Bukhari & Sunan al-Tirmidhi with Shaykh Akram Nadwi

Registration is now open for our advanced Bukhari and Tirmidhi courses with Shaykh Akram Nadwi.

A year-long advanced study of selected hadith from Sahih al-Bukhari and Sunan al-Tirmidhi, with a particular focus on hadith methodology.
Explore why Imam al-Bukhari selected certain chains and narrations while leaving others, examine al-Daraqutni's critical observations on his work, and consider how the Companions and early scholars understood hadith, derived legal rulings, navigated differences and reconciled apparently conflicting narrations.

The study of Sunan al-Tirmidhi gives particular attention to Imam al-Tirmidhi's distinctive method of combining hadith criticism with fiqh, including his assessment of narrations, discussion of variant chains, and documentation of the differing legal positions and practices of the Companions, Successors and early jurists.

This is an ongoing course and is suitable for students at an advanced level of Islamic studies.

Study Tafsir al-Kashshaf with Shaykh Akram Nadwi

Registration is now open for our advanced Tafsir al-Kashshaf course with Shaykh Akram Nadwi.

A year-long advanced study of selected passages and chapters from the Quran through al-Zamakhshari's al-Kashshaf, with a particular focus on the linguistic and rhetorical dimensions of the Quran.

Al-Kashshaf is widely regarded as one of the greatest linguistic commentaries on the Quran ever written. It has influenced Quranic scholarship for centuries and has been extensively quoted even by scholars who rejected aspects of al-Zamakhshari's theology.

The course offers a close textual study of selected chapters and verses, exploring how grammar, morphology and rhetoric shape meaning, where al-Zamakhshari's arguments are compelling, and where alternative readings may be stronger.

Students are expected to read the assigned text in advance, allowing class time to focus on difficult passages, linguistic subtleties and key interpretive questions.

This is an ongoing course and is suitable for students at an advanced level of Islamic studies.

The deadline to apply for our Islamic scholarship programmes for this academic year is 31st July 2026. If you are considering joining one of our programmes, please ensure your application is submitted before this date.

Our courses are designed to accommodate students at all levels, whether you're just starting out or looking to deepen your existing knowledge. Whatever your background, you’ll find a programme that suits your needs.

Foundation Year
The ideal starting point for beginners. Our Foundation Year has been running successfully for over 11 years. It offers practical, structured teaching to build a strong base in Arabic and Islamic sciences.

Qur’an Study Programme (3 Years)
This course takes you through the entire Quran over three years, studied verse by verse with reflection and depth.

Arabic Immersion Programme (2 Years)
This 2-year course offers an immersive environment for students to enhance their knowledge of Arabic grammar and morphology, while also further developing their skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Arabic.

Alimiyyah Programme (5 Years)
This is a five-year journey through Arabic and classical Islamic disciplines, leading to the Shahadat al-Alimiyyah (Licence in Islamic Scholarship). Students progress from intermediate to advanced texts across a range of fields.

Alhamdulillah, this Sunday we gathered at Al Salam Institute in Oxford for our Musalsalat Reading Session, where students joined both in person and online to hear a number of musalsal narrations from Shaykh Akram.

Among them was the Musalsal bi al-Musafahah, in which Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنه said:

"With this hand of mine I shook the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I never touched silk or fine brocade that was softer than his hand."

Abu Hurmuz, a student of Anas رضي الله عنه, said to him, "Shake my hand with the hand that shook the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," so Anas shook his hand. Thereafter, the students of Abu Hurmuz would ask him, "Shake my hand with the hand that shook the hand of Anas," and so this narration continued from generation to generation until it reached us.

Beyond illustrating the care with which the Sunnah was transmitted, Allah has honoured us by allowing us to hear the words of His Prophet ﷺ and to shake the hands of our teachers, whose hands were shaken by their teachers, generation after generation, until they reached those who shook the blessed hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

May Allah preserve and bless our scholars and teachers, and grant us the honour of learning, living, and conveying the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ. Amin.

Musalsal Hadith Reading and Ijazah Majlis with Shaykh Akram Nadwi

We are honoured to invite you to a special Musalsal Hadith Reading and Ijazah Majlis with Shaykh Akram Nadwi in Oxford on Sunday, 28 June 2026.

The Musalsalat are a unique category of hadith in which each narrator preserves not only the text of a narration, but also a particular action, statement, or circumstance associated with its transmission. These narrations provide a remarkable connection to the living tradition of hadith transmission, linking participants to a chain of scholars that extends across generations.

This gathering offers a rare opportunity to study a selection of musalsal narrations with one of the foremost contemporary scholars of hadith and to receive ijazah in their transmission.

All attendees will receive a complimentary e-book copy of Nazm al-La'ali fi al-Musalsal al-'Ali by Shaykh Akram Nadwi, a newly published collection of musalsal narrations from ASI Press.
