in for healthcare professionals

“I've done a first aid course” and “I could manage an anaphylaxis right now” are not the same sentence.
Most aesthetic practitioners will go a whole career without seeing one. That is precisely the problem: it is rare enough that nobody rehearses it, and fast enough that there is no time to look anything up.
We have written up what the first five minutes actually look like in a clinic setting. The triggers that matter in aesthetic rooms: hyaluronidase, chlorhexidine, local anaesthetic and rarely the filler itself. How to tell anaphylaxis from a faint. The adrenaline dose and where it goes. The positioning mistake that kills people. And how long a patient needs observing afterwards.
It is a six-minute read, and it might be the most useful six minutes you spend this week.

Anaphylaxis in aesthetic practice is rare, and fast. Here is exactly what to do in the first five minutes — dose, site, position, and when to call 999

You will almost certainly never need this training.
That is exactly why it has to be automatic.
Anaphylaxis does not announce itself politely. It happens fifteen minutes into a filler appointment, on a Tuesday, with a patient who was completely fine when they walked in.

“You signed the consent form.”

Five words that turn an unhappy patient into a claimant.

Complaints in aesthetics are almost never about your technique. They’re about what you did in the 24 hours after the phone lit up.

So ‚see them. In person. Same day or next day. A reassuring text is not an assessment.

Then work out what you’re actually dealing with:
A complication ‚ clinical protocol, now
An expected outcome nobody prepared them for ‚ explain, and book the review
An unmet expectation ‚back to the notes, then an honest conversation

Say this: “I’m sorry you’ve been worried about this. That’s not the experience I want you to have.” It’s not an admission of liability. It’s de-escalation.

Our new article covers the rest ‚refunds, insurers, formal complaints, documentation, and how to reply to a public review without breaching confidentiality.

That's completely normal" ‚ said before you've examined the patient ‚ is one of the most expensive sentences in aesthetics.

Every practitioner gets the message eventually. Late at night, a photo attached, a patient who is worried, upset, or both. What you do in the first 24 hours matters more than almost anything that follows.

Our new article walks through it properly:

Why you see them in person, same day or next day ‚ no exceptions
Telling a complication apart from an expected outcome and an unmet expectation
The words that de-escalate, and the five phrases that make things worse
When a refund genuinely helps ‚ and when it's the wrong call
When to notify your insurer, and what to check in your policy first
Handling a formal complaint and the 20-working-day deadline
Replying to a bad review without breaching patient confidentiality

Complaints are rarely about technique. They're about what happened next.

I don’t know what they used. »
Five words that should slow every aesthetic consultation right down.
Correcting another practitioner’s work has become a routine part of many clinics. It is also the highest-risk consultation most injectors will ever do because it starts with a face containing a product nobody can identify, and a treatment history that is confidently reported and frequently inaccurate.
Three things worth being honest about before you touch anyone:
→ You know far less than the history suggests. « 1ml of a well-known brand, about two years ago » establishes almost nothing.
→ It is not all « too much filler ». Migration, chronic swelling, delayed-onset nodules, infection, tissue descent and sometimes a cause that has nothing to do with filler at all.
→ You inherit the appearance, not the fault. The moment you treat, every change afterwards is attributed to you.
Assess at the first visit. Photograph and document the baseline before you touch anything. Ask the patient to request their records from the previous clinic, they have a legal right to them.
Correct carefully. Protect your patient. Protect your practice.

✔️ How to obtain the previous clinic's records, and what to do when you can't
✔️ The differential beyond "too much filler"
✔️ Where imaging helps, and where it doesn't
✔️ The medicolegal exposure you take on the moment you treat
✔️ How to give an honest opinion without disparaging a colleague

What your clinic must reach in sixty seconds.
Most aesthetic complications aren’t caused by bad injecting. They’re caused by a clinic that wasn’t ready.
A vascular occlusion at four o’clock on a Friday doesn’t turn on your technique. It turns on whether the hyaluronidase is in the building, whether it’s in date, and what the person on reception does while your hands are busy.
One thing many practitioners don’t realise: dermal fillers are medical devices anyone can buy — hyaluronidase is a prescription-only medicine. If you’re not a prescriber, that access has to be arranged before your first syringe.
