Goodtime Mama Jojo opened the first Burlesque and Striptease Academy in the U.K. I was and still am so thrilled about it. x
She was invited to perform (in 2008) at the Burlesque Hall of Fame's Legend's Show as recognition of her long and inspirational career in the industry. It was such an honour to be invited to perform on the Legends Night of the Burlesque Hall of Fames 50th Annual Striptease Reunion Showcase in Las Vegas in 2008. That was also the year that I turned 50 so it was an extra special experience for me. I
was put forward to the organisers of the show by a friend and former student of mine, the then reigning Miss Exotic World - the incomparable Immodesty Blaize and by Lara Clifton, who was one of the founders of the British burlesque phenomenon, The Whoopee Club. On the night in question, I performed one of my 'raw' burlesque routines (which means it was totally improvised) in front of an international audience which included burlesque icons such as Dixie Evans, Tempest Storm, Alexandra The Great 48", April March, Satan's Angel and Holiday O'Hara (to name but a few). I don't usually feel terribly nervous before going on stage although I do always shake afterwards - however, that night I was SOOO nervous. I remember changing my mind about my music roughly 5 minutes before I was due to go on. I had never performed to the tracks before but I just felt like doing something free of calculation and full of feeling. So, that's what I did, I loved it, the audience loved it and I became the first British burlesquer to be recognised as a legend by the Burlesque Hall of Fame officionados.
