One of the things I really miss about eating Chinese food with friends and family is the sharing. Something that’s 💯 cultural is that whatever we are having (steak, pie, desert), we ask others others want to try a bit and hand it around. There’s no such thing as I ordered this, and it’s mine, something I find hard to get - people acting so territorially about their food. These photos were when friends and I tried a imperial pastry shop in Beijing. We were not very “regal” in our eating and you’re unlikely to see such scenes anywhere public in the world now (except in Brazil etc maybe), least of all in China. Let’s hope we don’t all sit meters apart with plastic separators for much longer. Importantly - what are we eating?? @ Huguosi

One of my favourite neighbourhoods in Beijing that's still bustling with tradition and local life. , a stone's throw away from Houhai was made famous by a temple of which little remains.
