More Good News Friday!

As part of volunteering week we want to spotlight Kat! Read below;

My name is Kat and I work in the colleges MIS department as a Student Data Manager and mostly based at Orpington.

In my spare time I volunteer with Girl Guiding UK as a Brownie leader and occasionally help with trips and camps for Guides & Rangers. Apart from the weekly meetings where we have lots of fun, learn lots of new skills and complete challenges we also go out on trips to museums and stay away from home on Brownie holiday and earlier this year slept over at Clip & Climb! Earlier this year I was lucky enough to go to Jersey with Rangers for 4 days as a leader which was such a great experience.

Volunteering is such an important part of my life and Friday evenings are often the highlight of my week, it keeps me active and the act of giving something back to the community really gives me a real sense of positivity and belonging. Volunteering also has a positive impact on my mental health and as someone diagnosed with a mental illness it is somewhere that I can go along and be myself as Tawny Owl without any stigma.

Volunteering within Girl Guiding and also in my role as Church Secretary in my local Church equips me with many skills that are transferable back to the workplace and personal experiences which often are useful in many situations at work.

There are so many ways that people can volunteer with Girl Guiding from helping at weekly meetings to assisting units with their accounts – it is not all about badges & abseiling!

LCPA presents We Will Rock You / School edition! 2nd & 3rd July 2024! We hope to see you there!

We thought we'd take some time to introduce some of the team who are behind the scenes who keep us running so smoothly!

It's Volunteers' Week and we're celebrating the fantastic social action projects of our Good for Me Good for FE partner colleges.

Nottingham College construction students have taken the skills they’ve learnt in the classroom out into the community to volunteer at Headway Nottingham, a charity which provides support, friendship and information to people who have suffered a brain injury and are now living with disability.

Using their skills, they worked with service users to create birdboxes which the participants could take home with them, enriching both students' education and the lives of those they assist.

It’s Volunteers’ Week and to celebrate we’re offering a free summer lunch at our BR6 restaurant on Wednesday 19th June - 12.30 to 2pm, on a first come first served basis! 🙌

We recently had a super productive employer session over at Bromley campus! We got to hear exactly what skills our students need and how to tailor our courses to directly suit employability needs.

A massive thank you to all partners and employers who turned up. Here's to the new future of our workforce! 🚀🙌

More good news Friday! Our amazing colleague Dorian will be undertaking a 90 mile walking challenge to raise funds for Campaign Against Living Miserably - a charity who's central focus is su***de prevention and tackling depression.🙌
