Today I finally made it out to Wycombe Abbey. We receive so many enquiries from families preparing for entry there, and with an increasing number of students aiming for and securing places, I felt it was essential to visit in person.
Even during a whistle-stop tour in the middle of exam week, the school’s highly academic culture was immediately obvious. There’s a real sense of focus and ambition throughout the school, but also a warmth that stood out to me.
I particularly loved the mixed-year dorms, which felt genuinely supportive and community-driven, and the drama and sports facilities were exceptional. It’s very clear that Wycombe Abbey is not only focused on academic excellence, but on developing confident, well-rounded girls too.
After today’s visit, it’s easy to understand why so many families place it so highly on their list.
And for families enquiring, again, 11+ is the main entry point with more places being offered. I thought this was particularly pertinent for international families.

Thrilled to wake up to this wonderful Google review this morning.
We provided Audrey with full 360 support throughout her UK school admissions journey, including tuition in maths, English, reading, and creative writing. A dedicated team of tutors worked closely with her to help her reach her full potential.
Alongside academic tuition, we also managed the entire application process, liaising directly with both the schools and Audrey’s mum, while providing translation support during the initial stages of communication to ensure everything ran smoothly.
I’m absolutely delighted with the results Audrey achieved, receiving offers from Downe House, Wycombe Abbey, Woldingham, and Roedean. We also supported and guided her music scholarship application, and she successfully achieved a music scholarship offer.
A huge thank you for your kind review it means so much to us and we are incredibly proud of her achievements.

There’s a reason why the majority of our families come to us through referrals.
When parents recommend us to their friends, family, and school networks, it means everything because word of mouth is earned over time. Through hard work, honest advice, and consistent results.
To every family who has shared our name, recommended us in a WhatsApp group, passed our details on at the school gates, or trusted us with someone important to you… thank you. We genuinely appreciate it.
Your support has helped grow this business more than any advertisement ever could. 🤍
Thank you to Downe House School for having me today. We regularly receive enquiries and this year were thrilled that some of our students recieved offers so it was really valuable to visit in person.
What stood out most was the warmth of the staff and the genuine friendliness, kindness and happiness of the girls.
Rather than writing a full review myself, I always prefer to point families towards a range of trusted independent sources:

Each review paints a wonderful picture of the school.
And finally, they also run a really strong summer school programme which is worth looking into as well

Struggling to know what really matters in British independent school entrance exams? It's not just about what your child knows, but how they use it:
• Reading with precision to catch every detail
• Writing with clear structure that impresses
• Thinking clearly under pressure when it counts
• Communicating ideas confidently every time
Which skill do you think your child needs the most help with? Let's get them ready together!
Moving your child from an international school to a British independent school can feel like stepping into a whole new world.
Language differences, unfamiliar expectations, and the challenge of building confidence can make the transition overwhelming for both children and parents.
Common hurdles include adapting to new academic standards, understanding British school culture, and managing the emotional impact of change.
At DK Tuition, we support families through this process with tailored English tutoring and practical strategies that help children bridge these gaps smoothly.
For example, we work on strengthening language skills alongside building exam readiness, while also fostering independence and self-belief.
By focusing not only on academics but also on emotional support, we help students feel confident and prepared, turning uncertainty into achievement.
Are you navigating this transition with your family? What challenges have you faced, and what helped your child feel at home?
Sharing these experiences can empower others on the same path. Together, we can make the move to a British independent school a positive step forward.

Practising English every day builds confidence, but preparing for entrance exams demands something more precise.
Exam boards look for accuracy, speed, and the right balance of creativity.
Before choosing a tutoring plan, ask: Does it develop these skills? How does it tailor to your child's unique strengths?
Finding this balance is key to success. What questions are top of your mind when picking a tutor?

I am currently working from Africa, and I had the pleasure of visiting school in Zimbabwe over the weekend.
Nestled in the heart of Zimbabwe, Ruzawi School is a co-educational boarding preparatory school catering to children aged 6 to 12 years old. Having worked in boarding schools and visited many others, I found it fascinating to explore one of the best schools in Zimbabwe.
During our visit on a Saturday, we witnessed an inter-school athletic competition upon our arrival. I was genuinely impressed by the agility and speed displayed by some of the runners - a testament, perhaps, to Africa’s athletic prowess.
Following the exciting athletics event, I had the opportunity for a brief tour of the school led by a teacher from Peterhouse.
What truly stood out to me about Ruzawi was the palpable sense of community permeating its atmosphere. Parents were actively involved in the events, fostering a genuine sense of family and belonging.
While the facilities may have shown signs of wear and tear compared to those of British schools, the expansive campus still left an impressive mark. Sports played a pivotal role in the school’s culture, undoubtedly buoyed by the supportive atmosphere that prevailed throughout.

“School Interview Tips Part 2:
Preparing for your child’s school interview is a crucial part of their entrance process. Here are a few questions your child could be asked during the interview.
1️⃣ Tell me a little about yourself?
2️⃣ Why do you want to come to this school?
3️⃣ What book are you reading?
4️⃣ Are there any extra-curricular clubs you are excited about joining here?
5️⃣ If you could meet someone dead or alive who would they be and why?
I love a ‘wild card’ question, similar to question 5. Other examples could include:
Do you think it’s better to have lots of friends or just a few very close ones? Why?
If you could meet someone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
