Artist and former Morley College student Cecily Brown's work is on display for one more month at the Serpentine South gallery.

Before completing her BA at the Slade School of Art, Brown studied drawing and printmaking at Morley College from 1987–89. Today, she's one of the UK's most celebrated contemporary painters. This exhibition brings together vivid works inspired by recurring themes including nature, park life, woodland settings, amorous couples and uncanny walks through the landscape.

For her final project, Basak Alpas, a BA Creative Practice student, explored memory, connection and transformation through an intimate body of multidisciplinary work presented at the Chelsea Centre End of Year Show.

Between Skin and Silence is a dialogue with her aunt, painter and sculptor Meltem Erden (1952–1997, Istanbul). She responds to her book and artist legacy, reflecting on their relationship.

"Spending time with her paintings and the critical texts in her exhibition book has led me to reflect on her artistic legacy and presence in my life. Through this process, I began to see memory not as an ending, but as an ongoing conversation."

Working across sculpture, bioplastics, moving image, painting, screenprinting, ceramics, thread and hair, Basak explored the same central themes in a variety of ways, bringing the individual works together as one installation.

"The exhibition brings together traces of absence and connections that continue to exist beneath the surface, even when someone is no longer here."

Huge congratulations to Chelsea Centre student Freya Liu-Roach! 🎉

After completing her UAL Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, Freya has secured four offers from leading UK art schools, including Central Saint Martins, Edinburgh College of Art, and unconditional offers from Goldsmiths and Kingston University.

🗣️ "I was really surprised that I got into four out of five, to be honest. It’s really affirming to be accepted by such great schools."

Freya discovered her passion for fine art through the Foundation Diploma, developing a distinctive surrealist style inspired by music, performance and rock album artwork.
“My tutors really helped me refine my concepts and introduced me to new techniques and artists, which pushed my work further.”

Freya will be continuing her creative journey at Central Saint Martins, UAL: University of the Arts London to study Fine Art. We can't wait to see what she does next! 👏
