Home Educated!
His dad, Dhruva Katta, 36, an AI engineer, said: ‘Jivyan is very excited! We are very proud – he’s already preparing for his A-levels in maths and further maths next year! He attended regular year two primary school until February this year – when he got ‘too bored’ and wanted to be homeschooled instead. ❤️

Do you keep your Child Benefit if you home educate? 🇬🇧

This is a really common question from parents considering home education — and the answer is yes, home educating does not automatically mean you lose Child Benefit.

For children under 16, Child Benefit doesn’t depend on whether your child attends school or is educated at home.

After 16, different rules apply. Child Benefit can continue for a young person who remains in qualifying education or training, subject to HMRC’s conditions.

And there’s an important recent change: since September 2025, the rules for education provided outside a school or college changed, so home education can qualify even where it begins after the young person turns 16, provided the relevant Child Benefit conditions are met.

In this Home Education FAQ #7, I explain the basics and what home educating families need to know.

I’m a UK home educating mum sharing practical advice, legal information and real-life experience to help families feel confident about home education.

Home Ed Mum is ill… so what happens to school? 🤒😂

Well… the older ones get on with their work independently, the little ones bring their learning to Mum’s bed, and apparently being ill means receiving a steady supply of cups of tea! ☕😂

This is one of the things I love about home education.

There isn’t a school run. There isn’t a mad morning rush. And if Mum needs to spend the day in bed, we can simply adapt.

Some days are productive. Some days are slow. And some days involve learning from a tray on Mum’s bed! ❤️

Real home education isn’t about recreating school at home. It’s about finding a way of learning that works for your family.

Tell me I’m not the only home ed mum who appreciates not having to do the school run when they’re ill! 😂👇

Looking for our favourite home education resources or chicken-keeping essentials? 📚🐔

I’ve put together our Amazon Storefront with products and resources that we use, recommend or have found useful over the years.

You’ll find home education books, workbooks, curriculum resources and learning supplies, alongside some of the chicken-keeping equipment and essentials we’ve used with our own flock.

We’re a real home educating family, and we’re also learning as we go with our chickens — so these are recommendations from our own experience rather than a list of random products!

🛒 You can find all of our recommendations in my Amazon Storefront — Link pinned in the comments and also in my bio. 🔗
