There’s a reason we use so many games, hands on activities and interactive tasks in our tutoring sessions.

Children learn in different ways, and for many, being able to see it, move it, talk about it and practise it makes learning much more meaningful.

Games also give children the opportunity to revisit skills and concepts without it always feeling like repetition. This helps to build understanding, confidence and recall over time.

We still use worksheets when they’re useful, but they’re certainly not the only way we learn. 🌱⭐️

A big part of our tutoring sessions is revisiting and reviewing key concepts frequently, especially in English and maths.

There’s so much to remember, retain and recall, so little and often really is the way to go. Going back over things regularly helps avoid that overwhelmed feeling and makes it much easier to remember what we’ve learnt. 🌱⭐️

Our small group tutoring sessions are well underway!

Here’s a little glimpse into some of the lovely activities we’ve been getting up to today.

It’s wonderful to see the children growing in confidence, building friendships and discovering how much they can learn from one another. Through shared conversations, collaborative activities and lots of fun, they’re developing skills, sharing ideas and enjoying learning together. 🌱⭐️

One thing I love about my lessons is that no two are ever quite the same!

I’m always finding and adding new resources to my collection, so I’ve got lots of fun, engaging and interactive activities to choose from.

I like being able to mix things up, keep lessons interesting and have a good variety of high-quality resources ready to go. It also means I can choose activities that suit the learner and what we’re working on that day.

Basically… I can never resist a good teaching resource! 🌱⭐️

Our sessions are a mix of teaching, discussion, practical activities and lots of opportunities to practise and apply learning.

We revisit skills regularly, build on what children already know and adapt each session to what they need.

It’s about making learning purposeful, manageable and something they can feel confident with. 🌱⭐️

The groups are kept small so that everyone gets the support and attention they need, whilst still having that lovely group environment.

These activities might look like fun, but they’re also carefully thought out.

Each one is chosen for that particular session. Maybe we’re revisiting something that needs more practice, applying something we’ve just learnt, or giving children a chance to work independently while I’m continually assessing their understanding without it feeling like a chore.

Learning should feel fun!

We could absolutely do a worksheet on place value. Or we could have some cute Squishmallows cut outs with place value questions to answer. Same learning, just a much more engaging way to get there. 🌱⭐️
