Every week in our Sparkles Drama classes, we step into Storyland and use music, movement, storytelling and imaginative play to build confidence, communication and creativity in children aged 3–8 years.

This is one of our favourite tools in every Sparkles class.

To a child, a puppet isn’t just a toy!
It can be a friend. A storyteller! And a safe way to join the conversation with grownups.

When children chat to puppets, sing with them and help them solve silly problems, they’re building confidence, communication and imagination without even realising they’re learning.

(Plus it never fails to get a round of giggles). 🤭

In honour of one of our favourite drama themes, ‘Heroes to the Rescue’, we thought we’d celebrate some of our very own superheroes! 🦸✨

Bet you didn’t know tapping your child’s feet could be learning!

To a lot of our parents, this just looks like a fun little game.

But to us... it’s one of the many ways we help children learn through music.

This activity is all about tempo: helping children hear the difference between FAST and SLOW.

One thing we do very carefully is keep the volume the same while the speed changes.
But why?

Because if a song becomes fast AND loud, or slow AND quiet, at the same time, it can be difficult for little ones to tell what’s actually changing.

By changing just one thing at a time, we’re helping children become more confident listeners.

They’re learning to recognise patterns, tune into the music and build the listening skills that support future musical learning.
It’s one of those things your child will probably never notice...

But that’s exactly the point!

Behind every song, every game and every movement is a purpose.

We carefully choose activities like this so that when we step into a class, we’re creating moments that are joyful, magical and genuinely support your child’s development. ✨

“Why are all these grown adults singing with a parachute?” 🤔

Such a fair question. 😂
To most parents, this just looks like a fun way to keep little ones engaged.

But to us… it’s one of the many ways we help children learn through music and movement.
The beautiful thing is you can even try this exercise at home!

This game is all about language.
When we sing UP, the parachute goes up.
When we sing DOWN, it comes down.

ROUND, IN, OUT... every word is paired with an action.

For little ones, language becomes much easier to understand when they don’t just hear the words – they experience them.
We practise activities like this together as a team so that when we step into a class, we’re creating moments that are joyful, magical and genuinely support your child’s development. ✨
