I’ve been thinking about how quickly we can decide that if something feels hard, perhaps it isn’t the right thing to do.
It’s called “effort discounting.” When something looks as though it will require more effort, we can start to see the outcome as less worthwhile.
And in midlife, when you may already have a business to run, people relying on you and far too much going on in your head, it makes sense that the option offering some immediate relief can look very appealing.
And it may be the right option.
But it’s worth looking beyond how the decision feels today.
Which choice supports the business and the life you’re trying to create?
And which one could leave you facing the same decision again in six months, wishing you’d made a different call?
Save this for the next time the easiest option starts to look like the obvious one.
