Gaslight: Domestic Abuse through the Lens As part of the UK's only national festival for the humanities, these streamed events use film as a jumping of point to consider the issues of domestic abuse.

Online Free Film/Interview Night: Prof Evan Stark discusses coercive control, the 1944 psychological thriller Gaslight and the UK's Domestic Abuse Bill 2020 + world premiere of short-film by directed by Shane Nelson of OminuFusion Productions Opening with a short film by aware-winning director Shane Nelson, Dr Amy Kellam - of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies - will be interviewing Professor Evan Stark—world leading authority on coercive control, forensic social worker and founder of one of the first women's refuges in the US. We will discuss domestic abuse and the UK's forthcoming Domestic Abuse Bill through the lens of the class 1944 film Gaslight. There will be a screening of the film after the discussion at 8pm, with live chat enabled.. These events are part of the The Being Human Festival (Nov 12-22), led by the School of Advanced Studies, University of London in partnership with The Arts & Humanties Research Council and the The British Acadaemy. Partners for these specific events are The National Centre for Domestic Violence (NCDV.org.uk), Virtual Global Village and Omni-Fusion Media Production.

Happy to report that the short film 'Ending abuse' (which is currently featured on the front page of the National centre of Domestic Violence website https://www.ncdv.org.uk/ is being used as a training aid by various agencies, including the British Transport Police.

A free, fast emergency injunction service to survivors of domestic violence regardless of their financial circumstances, race, gender or sexual orientation.

Thanks to everyone who joined the premiere of the film 'Ending Abuse' (produced/written by myself and animated/directed by Shane Nelson of www.omni-fusion.com).

The film has been described as:

“An immersive tour de force...”
“A compelling and important work...”

It is being used as a training aid for DA support workers, and youth work.

The film’s central purpose is to identify and call out coercive behaviour which causes widespread domestic misery and which is strongly correlated with domestic violence fatalities. Professor Evan Stark terms domestic abuse of this kind, which has only recently been legally defined, ‘a form of domestic terrorism’.
